Nursing Care for Gastritis Pain

The nursing diagnosis was acute pain related to irritation and inflammation of the gastric mucosa, as evidenced by recurrent abdominal pain. The goals were to relieve the patient's pain by the end of the 8-hour nursing shift. Nursing interventions included establishing rapport, monitoring and recording vital signs and pain levels, maintaining a calm environment, providing instructions on diet and hygiene, regulating IV fluids and administering medications as ordered. The rationale was to facilitate cooperation, determine appropriate care, minimize aggravating stimuli, add comfort and promote recovery. Evaluation showed the patient's pain was relieved by the end of the shift.
