Subject: Motivation Letter

Dear Sir,

I am applying master degree in Integrated Climate System Science starting in October 2015. In
September 2014 I graduated with bachelor degree of Climate at Meteorological Climatological
and Geophysical College Indonesia. I want to continue my study in climatology so that I can
continue my career as lecturer or researcher.

I interested to continue my study in Integrated Climate System Science. I have been interested in
atmospheric science since I was senior high school student. Beside that, my country, Indonesia is
vulnerable to climate disaster such as: drought, intense rainfall, extreme weather, and other.
Indonesia is also vulnerable to global warming and its potential consequences. Our country needs
professionals who understand more about this so that the impacts of disasters could be reduced. I
think if I learn more about Integrated Climate System Science, I can help many people in the
future.

I have strong education background in meteorology (Diploma III) and Climatology (Bachelor).
In my previous campus I was top student. During my university life, I had cooperated with many
people in some organization. I was the secretary of FMKI (Indonesia Civil Student Forum), part
of Science and Technology Club, part of student council in my first year and part of Public
Relation division of our Battalion in second year. I was an English Presenter of World
Meteorological Day Event in BMKG for two years, 2012 and 2013. I also presented my paper in
6th International Japan Joint Science Symposium, Yogyakarta.

After graduated, I work for Badan Meteorologi Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG). BMKG is
Indonesian national agency of meteorology climatology and geophysics. I contribute BMKG in
disaster risk reduction especially in climatology disaster such as drought and climate change
effect. I keenly interested in acquiring more theoretical knowledge and practical knowledge. I
also interested in climatological research from Germany. Study in Integrated Climate System
Science will help me to understand more. I can apply my acquired knowledge in my organization
in the future.

I like to study and have strong will. I believe that if I want to achieve something I need to work
hard for it. In my previous college I had to deal with people from different culture so that I
become tolerance and adaptive. I also have research experience in my organization. With these, I
think I can study well there.
SICSS is qualified graduate school and I highly interested in Integrated Climate System Science.
There are not many universities which can give such good study in Integrated Climate.
Universities in my country instead dont have this specific study. Beside that, SICSS is the
graduate school originating from the Cluster of Excellence on Integrated Climate System
Analysis and Prediction (CliSAP). I hope when I study there I also have opportunity to learn
their researches.
