Ilm e Rjal 1

The document discusses the concept of 'ilm al-rijal', which is the science of evaluating hadith narrators and determining the reliability of narrators in hadith chains. It argues that 'ilm al-rijal' is not a true science and relies on assumptions rather than proven evidence. It also provides examples of narrations that contradict the methodology of 'ilm al-rijal' according to its own standards of evaluation.

Calamity of ilm al rijal

Postby ZolfigarAnsary Wed Aug 13, 2014 7:19 pm

The calamity of ilm al Rijal! ( Science of men)

In this short and brief segment, we will be looking at basic and fundamental elements of this so
called science and seek to understand its validity. We will then look at what the yamani a.s. said
concerning this topic and other calamities.
Dr. Abdul Razak Al Derawi mayAllah be pleased with him discusses this and I ( seek refuge from
the I) will be giving you the most important points. A short article by Muhammed Ali Zolfiqar will
also be linked at the bottom mentioning important narrations refuting ilm al rijal completely.

The Dr. says:

Now first of all, this manjah( i.e. course/programme/method) cannot be classified as a science. A
science is something that can be proven or disproven through testing and experimentation such
as the case with Chemistry and Physics that can be proven through laboratory procedures.
However, concerning the so called science of Rijal i.e. Ilm al Rijal, this is something based on
accumulated assumptions and not exclusive and proven results that can validate this science as
a science.
We can call it a Science just like psychologists try their best to call their discipline a science (
which as a psychology student myself I can agree with that 100 %). There is a great debate in
psychology between psychologists as to whether this modern disicipline is scientific or not.
Psychology is based on philosophy ( just like Usool al fiqh and ilm al kalam), and physics mainly.
Physics was used to try to change psychology from a non-scientific discipline to a scientific one.
Therefore psychology is classified today as a humanities subject although the degree you do at
university is called Bsc Psychology!!.

We can demonstrate hundreds of weaknesses and falsehoods in this so called science called ilm
al rijal but will be brief and precise for now. Narrations from Al Mohammed PBUT rejecting this
heresy are provided at the end by Zolfiqar Ansary my dear brother.

A very important point to focus on primarly is that, in science, the beauty of a theory Is that if it
provides strong proofs and evidence for whatever it suggest, there can always be future
developments and discoveries that can disapprove or falsify this theory. A perfect example is the
Son of Fatima Ahmed Al Hassan a.s. who in his legendary masterpiece called Atheism Delusiuon,
looks at major scientific theories and disapproves them SCIENTIFICALLY and falsifies some
aspects and principles of that theory. Now ilm al rijal is not a SCIENCE in the 1st place so
????!!!!!!

Let us now look at the way the so called uqala ( i.e. intellectuals/ rational ones) use their
Science to judge the narration of Alhubyat a.s. and the great danger that this course implies.
Anything that is based on a religious aqeeda belief has to be based upon textual/ scriptural
evidence and authenticity. Now we as Mutasharia (meaning believers in a particular religion)
have to rely on texts from this SAME religion to prove a certain belief such as Rajaa.

The companions of this Science from what I have read in all the books of ilm al rijal, shia and
sunni, have failed to provide exclusive scriptural evidence for their method/ course. They rely
upon the following verse

O ye who believe, if a transgressor comes to you with any news, ascertain the truth, lest ye harm
people unwittingly and afterwards become full of repentance for what ye have done. 49:6

This verse is clearly against them as we will see. Ilm al rajal states that to prove a certain
narration has been narrated from the infallible or not, we will have to look at the chain of narration
( meaning the chain of narrators that go all the way back to the infallible). We try to see which of
them is truthful, which one of them is unknown, and which one of them is a transgressor or liar.

Now the verse refutes their claim because simply it states if a transgressor comes to you with
any news, then ascertain the truth. If they want to use it then the verse should have said

If a transgressor comes to you with any news, then say he is a liar!!!!. So the Quran says clearly
do not reject what he says immediately, but ASCERTAIN THE TRUTH, for the khabar( news) can
be true or false even if the narrator is a transgressor. But ilm al rijal does not comply with this
Quranic method and wisdom. Therefore this verse is called the silent verse and thus cannot be
used as a proof and evidence for this so called Science.

Another proof they tried to present to prove their science, is what is called seerat al uqalaa. This
is different to al daleel al aqli( the evidence based upon the mind which is what usooli mujtahids
rely upon with the Quran and the narrations to give a verdict). In al Daleel al aqli, the judge is the
mind, but in Seerat al uqala, the judge is the group of intellectuals ( Uqala) even if the judgment of
the intellectuals does not agree with the mind. In seerat al uqala, the uqalaa ask about the
narrator in the chain of narration. Is he truthful, liar, unknown etc. so based upon the descriptions
of the narrator, the Uqalaa ( intellectuals) come to a result concerning a particular narration.

This is false and weak. If a man I know to be sincere and truthful comes to me with news, I would
generally believe him. However despite this man being truthful, can he forget or not?? If the man
forgets or misses some information from that khabar, then the whole content ( matn) of the
narration can change. Does this mean that man was not truthful because he simply forgot???

Now let us say the Uqalla ( intellectuals) are right for the sake of argument. Who are the Uqalla in
the 1st place??

Those who use ilm al rijal have what is called Seerat Al Mutasharia. The mutasharia are the
clerics exclusively. However, the Uqala is anyone who is a aqil ( intellectual/ sound in judgment),
even if this aqil was a non-muslim. Now let us say this o Uqalaa

Before taking into account the truthfulness of the narrator and what he narrated, let us be sure
of that. We have nothing to lose, as adding more truth to truth will only benefit us all.

Now the Uqalaa state a very sensible principle which is that, there is no restriction to
authenticating the narrator only, but searching for Qarain( which means ,connecting or being
connected; point here two things are connected; such as many narrations that speak about the
Raja all are Qarain meaning they have the same indication ( dalala) )

For example, if a friend tells me that person x died. Should I believe in him immediately, or can I
ask others in the neighbourhood. I ask another person and he says that I have passed by the
house of the deceased and heard screaming. Now I have a stronger dilala( indication and
evidence for something) for the news of the death of person x. another person confirms this even
more by saying the family bought a coffin etc. now I am certain that the news are true.

Therefore the claim of those who believe in ilm al rijal is false concerning the Uqala which is that
the truthfulness of the narrator is enough.

Now I come to person y and say to him that Imam Al Mahdi a.s. has sent his messenger. The
person will have an internal determination to know whether this news is true or not. The heavier
the news is and Ahmed pbuh is the heaviest news, the stronger is the proof required to prove the
news. This is not like something worthless. For example someone tells me there is no tomatoes
in the market today. I believe in him and then find out there were tomatoes available. This is
nothing important ad would not harm me in any way, then how about the issue of the Mahid
PBUH. ??
The funny and outrageous thing is that the narrations that you will find at the end in the link,
oppose clearly ilm al rijal and THESE SAME NARRATIONS ACCORDING TO ILM AL RIJAL ARE
SAHEEH!!!!! ( meaning they have an authentic chain of narration. Then what is this comedy show
and double standards??!!)

From Ahmad son of Muhammad son of Eissa from Al-Hussein son of Sa'eed and Muhammad son
of Khaled Al-Burqi from Abdullah son of Jundub from Sufyani son of Al-Simd he said I said to Abi
Abdullah pbuh may I be your ransom a man comes to us with lies, he mentioned a hadeeth and
we consider him disgusting. Abi Abdullah pbuh says, "Did he say to you that night is day and day
is night?" He said no. He said, "If he said to you this do not say he is a liar or else you are calling
me a liar." Mukhtasar Basa'er Al-Darajat Hassan son of Suleiman Al-Hilli p.76 and in another print
p.234 Bihar Al-Anwar v.2 p.211 - See more at: http://saviorofmankind.com/articles/shi ...
ad0wd.dpuf

When we look at the above narration, we clearly see it opposes the method of ilm al rijal
( Science of men). All the narrators in the chain of narration are authenticated except Sufyani son
of Al-Simd. Sufyan son of al Samd can be easily authenticated because Ibn Abi Umayr narrates
from him. What does that mean???

We have two kinds of authentications. There are special/distinctive authentications and

general/public authentications. The specific/special ones are for example Ahmad son of
Muhammad son of Eissa. I look for this narrator in the book Fahrasat al Toosi, or Rijal Al
Najashi, or rijal al toosi. These are the most popular Shia books of ilm al rijal. I look for the name
Ahmed and if I see he is a thiqa( truthful/ trustworthy) then I take the word of Ahmed Son of
Muhammed as truthful. This is a special authentication for Ahmed.

What are general authentications? For example,Shiekh Al Toosi says, that anyone whom Ibn Abi
Umayr narrated from is thiqa such as Sufyan son of Al-Simd as mentioned earlier. Therefore
anyone Ibn Abi Umayr narrates from is truthful and authenticated. In al Kafi vol. 6 p. 504 we see
in a narration that Ibn Abi Umayr narrated from Sufyan therefore based on the principle
mentioned before Sufyan is thiqa.
Now as we witnessed, there is absolutely no proof from the Quran or from Al Moahmmed or even
the Daleel of the Aqil proving what they claim but we saw the opposite. Their proof is mainly
So what, you want to believe anyone??? This is how they deceive the poor Shias.

Now the interesting thing is that he who relies upon ilm al rijal such as the Mutasharia as
mentioned before, admit that even though the chain of narration is completely authentic, I can
only assume and suppose that this narration is true and is from the infallible. So the result is
assumptions ( than) and not a solid an exclusive result. THEN WHAT IS THE POINT OF YOUR
MANHAJ/ METHOD?????

Now they argue that in Usool Al Fiqh ( another sunni heresy incorporated into twelver religion), it
is valid to work by al thunoon ( meaning work by assumptions and suppositions that COULD be
true OR NOT). The Usoolis claim that in Fiqh, the Khabar Ahad, meaning singular lone narrations
that do not likes, can be worked by but not taken as aqeeda ( belief).

Therefore the legitimate method of proving the authenticity of a narration is to look for its likes/
similars/ Qarain and see if it is Mutawatir( frequently narrated ). For example the more than 100
narrations which prove the Mahdis ( link for more than a 100 hadiths mentioning the Mahids
meaning they are Mutwatir,
http://www.justiceleagueofislam.com/ind ... Itemid=503).

We have exceeded the limit of frequency of the narration of the Mahdis. This means that building
a belief based on this is authentic and legitimate. However a twelver comes by happily with one
narration. He argues that the belief in the Mahdis is false. Why ??
He says this narration mentioning the Mahdis has a weak chain of narration ( Mashallah). So your
Mhdis aqeeda is flawed. This clown forgets that Mutawatir i.e. FREQUENT narrations concerning
anything overtake a single lone narration. Whether that narrations has a weak chain, or it has a
strong one but says for example there are only 12 successors, in both cases none of the 2
narrations can be used to disapprove and reject MORE THAN 100 HADEETHS ABOUT THE
MAHDIS!!!! But the followers of the clerics resort to egoism as a solution.

Now let us say that ilm al rijal is true and reliable. Let us put it to the test. For example, a friend
tells me that he wants to build a house or a factory and needs specialist workers for the task. So I
bring him 100 workers. He asks me Are they all specialists?? How did you know they are?? So I
say to him, well I dont know. Let us test them. Let these workers present a certificate which
proves they are specialists. However out of the 100 workers, only 5 have certificates. Do I expel
and fire the 95 remaining workers???

Now they say that we do not except the narration of anyone except he who has special or general
authentication in the books of ilm al rijal. The books of this so called science are only 5 books.
They are Rijal Al Najashi, Rijal Al Toosi, Fahrasat Al Toosi, Rijal Al Kishi, and the book of Ibn Al
Ghadaery. They only rely on these 5 books because the books of ilm al rijal that were written after
these 5 books, were written by authors who did not live with the narrators.

(For example in the Biography of Biographies book, the narrators lived with the infallible pbuh.
Others did not meet him but narrated from those who met him like Sheikh Nathim AL Uqaily. I
( seek refuge from the I) translate and make a small book. The fact that I am living in their time
and narrating to you their stories, is crucial and fundamental for the validity and authenticity of the
news I narrate according to the method of ilm al rijal. This is what they call A tangible testimony
meaning that I narrate from narrators who are living with the infallible are living in my time)

In the case of the 5 books of ilm al rijal, they are reliable according to them because those who
wrote it lived with the narrators or in the time of the narrators. Those who came after the 5 books
were written, their testimonies are mere conjecture and is a matter of guessing because they did
not live with the narrators. Now those who wrote the 5 books, can we really say they have a full
tangible testimony meaning that they met and live with in the time of the narrators??

Verily this is a great falsehood. Did al Sheikh Toosi live in the time of the companions of the
Prophet pbuh or Imam Ali a.s.??? Imam Al Sadiq a.s. had more than a 100,000 narrators who
narrated hadeeths from him. Did Sheikh Al Toosi who was born in the 5th Century AH live with
these narrators?????

After examining the 5 books extensively to see how many narrators were authenticated by those
authors WHO LIVED IN THEIR TIME!!, I found out that only 1000!! Narrators were mentioned
in these books, either authenticated or falsified. What a disaster!!!

Shiekh Al Namazi recorded in his book titled Mustadrakat alai lm al rijal more than 18000
narrators. Sayyed Al Khoei r.a. recorded the names of more than 15000 narrators. Are these
numbers reasonable??? From the Prophet pbuh to Imam Al Mahid a.s.??? The reality for any
sane intellectual!!! is that hundreds of thousands narrated from Mekkha, to Median and finally
in Samara. The narrators in Sunni narrations cannot also be rejected just because they are sunni
narrators. This Sunni narrates from the Messenger of Allah saaww. And according ilm al rijal of
the Shias, the narrator has to be thiqa, meaning a Shia. Do you then reject the sunni narrators
narration who narrated from the Prophet saw?????

In what is called Taqseem al Rubai which is the 4 divisions of narrations, ( these are 1.
Saheeh( correct) 2. Authentic 3. Al Hassan ( good) 4. Weak) the authentic sunni narrators
narration is take into consideration. What he narrates is seen as good ( Hassan).
We have at least 500,000 narrators from Mohammed saw to the 12th Imam, and all they could
collect is 1000, 15,000, or 100,000????? !!!!!!!!!!!!!!. is this a science that is reliable or something
that can even be called a science??? 500,000 muslims whom you deem as unknown therefore
they cannot be authenticated ???

Jafar Al Subhany defines ilm al rijal in his book titled kuliyat fi ilm al rijal page 11. He says

The science of men ( ilm al rijal) is a science that is used to look at the conditions of the narrators
( al rijal). Are they authentic or not. And if you wanted, it is a science that seacrhes the condition
of the narrators in terms of accepting or rejecting the hadeeth. Also looking at the narrator
himself, who is he and what is he described as in terms of authenticity, are they truthful or not,
and are they UNKNOWN ????!!!!!!!.

So ilm al rijal is the science that allows to know the condition of the narrators in terms of their
description as either authentic or not. Are they truthful or not. BY ALLAHS SAKE, is describing a
narrator or anyone as unknown( majhool) a description of who he is or a description of my
ignorance of him.????? The human is either truthful or not. ( dark comedy).
End of the video. Alhamdulilah

Now let us look at what Imam Ahmed Al Hassan a.s. said concerning this topic in the righteous
servant vol 2 page 73.

He pbuh says

If the narration is narrated from authentic and honest shias, then it has a Saheeh ( correct)
chain of narration. This is according to the principles of ilm al rijal. Therefore to prove the
authenticity of the chain of narration, it is enough that
1. Narrators are Shia
2. Truthful

And it is enough that the narrators of the will are ALL SHIA and that Shiekh Al Toosi r.a narrated
the will and categorized it within the narration of the shia. .( in Al Ghayba p. 137). Then when Al
Toosi r.a. puts forward the narrations of the shia and among these narrations is that of the will, he
says As to that which proves its authenticity is that the Shia narrate it frequently from one
generation to the next, and the method of correcting that is found in the books of the Imamiya in
the texts of the prince of the believers and the method is one. ) ( Al Ghayba p. 156). And you can
revise the book of Sheikh Nathim al uqaily titled Intisaran lilwasiya ( Giving victory to the will)
which proves that the narrators of the will are ALL SHIA. ( CHECK ALSO THIS LINK ABOUT
ANALYSIS OF THE WILLs CHAIN, DONE BY ZOLFIQAR-
http://www.saviorofmankind.org/forum/vi ... f=10&t=586)

As to the judgment of the narrators individual truthfulness, and truthfulness suffices us, it is
enough to say that there is no legitimate proof demoralising or downgrading any of the narrators
of the holy will. The Shia ( believer) is truthful until it is proven otherwise.

And they dont say that the believer is a liar until his sincerity is proven, and he who says this
states that his followers are transgressors and liars until each one of them is proven to be sincere
and truthful. ?! !!!

As to those among them who say that the believer is unknown externally until his truthfulness his
proven, and say that the narrators external condition is unknown whether he is truthful or not until
proven, their claim opposes the Quran and the Sunna of the prophet who believed the believers
without examination. The Quranic verse states

Among them are men who hurt the prophet and say : He is one who believes every thing that he
hears: say : A hearer of good for you ( who) believes in Allah swt and believes the faithful and a
mercy for those of you who believe: and ( as for) who hurt the prophet of Allah saww, they shall
have a painful punishment. 9:61.

This means that those who opposed the action of the Prophet saww, state the same thing as
those say a believer is unknown and unreliable until he is proven to be so. For they criticize the
Prophet pbuh for believing every believer. So the Prophet pbuh sees the believer as truthful until
it is legitimately proven otherwise.

The narrators of the will are believing Shias, and the believer is externally truthful as presented in
the Quran. So this proves the correctness of the wills chain for those who rely upon the chain
method. As to the inner of the believer, and whether he is truthful or not, this is a matter that only
Allah swt lord of the lords knows of and those who he swt wants to know.

I think that what was presented is enough. But in addition to that, I say to their claim that the
believer is externally a liar or unknown until it is proven otherwise, is in opposition to the
bounteous Islamic Sharia and leads to the inactivity of the law and the Sharia courts and the
contracts in many instances. This is because you cannot reach a witness to marriage or divorce
and legal procedures easily. That is if generosity takes place in the condition of proving the justice
and truthfulness of the narrator according to them, and the justice of anyone is not proven except
by the researcher and examiner himself according to their claim that truthfulness s not proven
except by detailed examination. But the examiner himself requires a witness to prove his
judgment of someone elses truthfulness. Thus the matter turn into unlimited chains and is
falsified. The justice of anyone cannot be proven through the method of ilm al rijal except if the
narrator has a testimony from the infallible who testifies of that persons truthfulness. And the
judge in a Sharia court cannot look into the truthfulness of all the people by himself and thus the
testimony in Islam becomes negligible..

And I add that their claim of the believer being unknown forces us not to rely upon the market of
the believers, whereas the narrations stated that the reliance upon the market of the Muslims is
legitimate, then how about the believers(Shia)??? ..

So let their followers hear their say and that the deviant clerics say that the narrators are liars and
trangressors until proven otherwise because their clerics seek to prove the truthfulness of each
individual narrator in an irrational and illogical method.. THE IMAM A.S. THEN SAYS WHAT
WAS MENTIONED BEFORE BY DR. AL DERAWI.

Finally let us look at the calamity of all calamities which is the issue of the birth of Imam Al Mahdi
a.s. In this video Sayyed Kamal Al Haydari discusses how the chain method disproves the birth of
Imam Al Mahid a.s.
Sayyed Kamal Al Haydari says

If we abide by the chain method of Sayyed Al Khoei r.a., can we prove the birth of Imam Al Mahid
a.s. or not?? Let us first look at the books of the Shia.

In Usool Al Kafi vol .2 , Door of the birth of the Companion of the matter a.s from p. 645- 677. Al
Kulayni r.a. narrates 31 narrations concerning the birth of the Imam a.s.
In the book Mirat al Uqool fi sharh akhbar al rasool by Al Majlisi p. 170 and that which follows
mentions narrations which again speak about the birth of the Imam a.s. ( Let us look at how the
chain method embarrasses the shia greatly and destroys the heritage of Al Mohammed)

From 31 narrations narrated in al Kafi that mention the BIRTH OF SAHIB AL ZAMMAN a.s. ONLY
7-8 HAVE AN AUTHENTIC CHAIN OF NARRATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Allama Al Buhboody in Saheeh al Kafi vol. 1 door of the birth says Only 2 narrations are
correct!!!!!!

Now you o researchers, if a man says to you that you believe in the existence of the 12 Imam
a.s., what is your proof on that ???? If you say we have hundreds of narrations mentioning the
birth, he will tell you baba bring me 5 narrations that your scholars said are correct. Are 5
narrations enough to prove the birth??? Is the birth a historical matter or a matter of aqeeda i.e.
belief. ??? Will the khabar Ahad ( meaning a lone hadeeth) be enough for you to build a aqeeda
based on it ?? Yes in jurisprudence we can work by a single hadeeth/khabar and by conjecture
(than) but not in the matters of belief.( or as they call it usool al deen), because there is no
frequency ( tawatur) that makes the belief exclusive.

Sheikh Asif Al Muhsini states in his book Mashrat Bihar Al Anwar vol 2 p. 208. He states

There are more than 40 hadeeths that mention the birth of the hujja and the state of his mother.
( Note that Al Muhsini is a Shia and not a Nasibi like Ibn Hajar or Ibn Taymiya or al Thahabi and is
a student of Sayyed Al Khoei). And from those narrations that are deemed as mutabar i.e. taken
into consideration is that which is mentioned by number 5, on the condition that there is enough
Tarahum from Al Sadooq (meaning Al Sadooq asking Allah swt to have mercy on Ibn Isam).
Otherwise Ibn Asim is also Unknown. And you know that Sayyed Al Khoei in his encyclopaedia of
al rijal does not accept the frequency of Tarahum on a man as a reason for his authenticity.
Therefore even this lone narration is also weak based upon this chain method. The same thing
goes for another narration. So how can we prove the birth of the Imam a.s.

We will be forced to go the books of the Nasibis like Ibn Hajar Al Askalani to prove the birth of the
Imam a.s. and the chains in these Sunni books are all weak. Ibn Khalqan also mentions the birth
in his book. But a sunni can easily say Khalaqan was mistaken. A
Al Muhsini adds on and says that even the narration that mentions how Imam a.s. was born in
detail and how angels came forth etc which is narrated from Hakima( aunt ) is also weak, has a
changing content, and its narrators are unknown. And the authenticity of Hakima is also unknown.
(!!!!!!!!!!!!!).

And the 12th narration which agrees with its content is a fairy tale by the narrators.

End

Alhamdulilah on the blessing of Ahmed PBUH whose light spread to all corners of the earth, the
riser of Al Muhammed, the prince of anger, the destroyer of the castle of falsehood and heresies.
