Cesar Chavez
Cesar Chavez was an American migrant farm worker who made a major difference in the

rights for Mexican Americans as well for migrant farmers. He was an American labor leader,

civil rights activist, and he also co-founded the National Farmworkers Association in the year

1962.

Cesar had two brothers. Their names were Richard (who lived from 1929-2011) and his

other brother was named Librado. Cesar also had two sisters. Their names were Rita and Vicki.

He was named after his grandfather, whom of which was named Cesario. His brother Richard

made the design for the United Farm Workers Association. Cesars schooling career ended at the

age of 14 when he dropped out of school in the seventh grade to keep his mother from having to

work in the fields. In 1946, Chavez joined the U.S. Navy and served two years in the military.

Cesar was born March 31, 1927 in Yuma, AZ. He was born into an immigrant family and

spent 12 years living in Arizona. They owned a grocery store and a ranch; however, during the

Great Depression, they lost everything that they ever had. After 12 years of living in Arizona,

him and his family relocated to California, where him and his family worked all over the state as

migrant farm workers. Chavez faced very poor living conditions and very poor pay as a migrant

farm worker. The people that him and his family worked worked for were often very racist and

mistreated him. He would work all day and earn very little money. Eventually he earned enough

money to then go find another job and that made a huge difference in his life. Until his death he

worked very hard to make sure that migrant farm workers and farmers everywhere had better

working conditions.

Cesar did lots in his life for migrant farmers back in his time period and for the migrant

farmers today that still have that occupation. Cesar Chavez worked as a labor leader and

organizer all throughout the 1950s. After that he founded the National Farm Workers
Association in 1962. This was made to make farmers receive more rights and have a better

environment to work in. This organization was co owned by Delores Huerta. This organization

was later changed to the United Farm Workers. This organization received great support from the

middle class. It caught the attention of people all across this country as it became a popular

organization. Today it has more than 10,000 members, and if you know numbers that is a lot of

people in an organization.

In conclusion, Cesar is the most well known Latino American revolutionists ever. He did

things to help farmers and Latinos all over America. Thanks to him we have the UFA and equal

rights for farmers everywhere. Cesar was a great man and a great leader and he has most surely

been missed since his heart breaking death in 1993.
