Bondarchuk and the most important actors are:

play as russian soldiers. I will now show you the trailer.
Synopsis:
The film is set in November 1942, during the battle of Stalingrad in the second world
war. It is about five Russian soldiers who are the only survivors of an attempt to
cross the Wolga to surround the German troops by the red army. They take shelter in
a building where they encounter Katya, living alone in the building after her family
had been killed. As they spend the next few days together, the soldiers grow fond of
her, and she of them. Germans encamped near the crossing are led by Hauptmann
Kahn; a highly decorated, but disillusioned soldier who falls in love with a Russian
woman named Masha. Oberstleutnant Henze then arrives to take command of the
Germans. He degradates Kahn both for his attraction to Masha, as well as his failure
to eradicate the Russian soldiers. Henze decides to set an example by rounding up
the Russian civilians living in the bombed out buildings, then burning a woman and
her daughter alive. This enrages the Russian soldiers who ambush the Germans,
killing several, but losing several of their own men in the process. The Germans and
Russians then retreat to their own shelters to wait the others out. After Polyakov
ricocheted an artillery shell into the German complex, Kahn is ordered to begin the
attack on them; he takes Masha to an abandoned building, hoping to save her from
the coming fight. As she begs him to stay with her, she is shot by Chvanov for being
a collaborator, enraging Kahn. Nikiforov is taken captive by the Germans, where he
manages to brutally stab Henze before being killed himself. Henze's death puts Kahn
back in charge. German reinforcements arrive with tanks that have the range to take
out the Russian soldiers and their building. They open fire, fatally injuring Chvanov.
Kahn and his soldiers attack, shooting Polyakov to death. Kahn then finds Gromov
on the second floor trying to use a radio. The two of them shoot each other several
times before collapsing. Sergey reaches them and uses the radio to order an air
strike on their building, which is being overrun by German soldiers. Katya watches
with a broken heart as the building is leveled, leaving no one inside alive.
Which parts of the film are based on real events:
The film is a fictional story with fictional characters (mostly), but it is set in a real
event. The situation in the city is depicted quite good, but in reality is was a lot more
active in Stalingrad, and there was more fighting. In the film there are a lot of
occasions where nothing happened, the Germans and Russians didnt attack each
other and the characters were just sitting around. The buildings etc. were depicted
quite well.
How trustworthy were the parts based on real events:
The parts of the film that are based on real events are very trustworthy, because the
battle of stalingrad is depicted quite good. Facilities, city surroundings and the
situation of the soldiers are all very trustworthy. Unfortunately, the film and characters
mostly arent based on real events and are just fiction.
What was the directors view:
The director of the film wanted to give a realistic view of the circumstances in
stalingrad, while also having fictional characters and stories. He also wanted to make
not every german bad and not all russian soldiers good, but give a more realistic
perspective. He also wanted to depict the heroicness of the russian soldiers in the
battle and WWII, and what they have done for our world today.
Yay/nay:
Definitely a yes, because i think it is a very good film and while it can get boring
when the characters are doing nothing (again) the fighting scenes and the story are
very good. It is very gripping and I would recommend it for anyone who enjoys a
historic film.
