Graphic Design II Final Review

1. Describe the importance of symbolism is graphic design.

Symbols create a message to the audience through repetition and familiar shapes.

2. Find and name 2-3 symbol images commonly used in graphic design and paste them
below.

3. Describe the importance of a critique. Then, write a sample critique that you would
give to a peer.
Critiques allow for an artist to receive positive and negative feedback on a piece to
reform it to make the design look better. I really enjoy the repetition of the color red in
this design, there is a little bit of negative space in the bottom corner so maybe adding
more shapes will create some balance. Overall, its a very eye catching peace with the
movement of the bold lines.

4. Describe what balance is in graphic design. Find a photo online that is a good
example of balance.
Balance is when a piece is symmetric or asymmetrically balanced and makes a piece
feel complete without too much negative space in areas.

5. Describe what emphasis is in graphic design. Find a photo online that is a good
example of emphasis.
Emphasis is drawing attention to a certain point in a design.
6. Describe what unity is in graphic design. Find a photo online that is a good example
of unity.
Unity is what brings a peice together and is over all aesthetically pleasing.

7. Describe what contrast is in graphic design. Find a photo online that is a good
example of unity.
Contrast is when there are different elements that are opposing one another.

8. Describe what simplicity is in graphic design. Find a photo online that is a good
example of simplicity.
Simplicity is when you take a modern spin on a design and use lines, shapes, and
space boldly in a peace.
