IntheApril1,2009message,aGulenfollowernamedGokhanOzkokaskedClintondeputychief
ofstaffHumaAbedinforhelpinconnectingoneofhisalliestoPresidentObama.
OzkokisfoundingboardmemberoftheTurkishCulturalCenterandpartofanetworkof
businessesandnon-profitsaffiliatedwiththeGulenmovement,alsoknownasHizmet.
Ozkokservedasnationalfinanceco-chairofthepro-ClintonReadyPAC.Hegave$10,000tothe
committeein2014and$2,700toClintonscampaignlastyear.HeisalsolistedontheTurkish
CulturalCenterswebsiteasamemberoftheClintonGlobalInitiative,oneofthenon-profitarms
oftheClintonFoundation.Hesgivenbetween$25,000and$50,000totheClintoncharity.
AnotherlinkbetweenGulenistsandtheClintonorbitwasrevealedinalobbyingregistration
disclosurefiledlastmonthwiththeSenate.ItshowsthataGulen-alignedgroupcalledtheAlliance
forSharedValueshiredtheClinton-connectedPodestaGrouptolobbyCongressonitsbehalf.
Thegroupseekstolobbyforthepromotionofpeace,toleranceandinterfaithdialogue.
ThegroupsexecutivedirectorisAlpAslandogan,aformerprofessoratuniversitiesinTexas.He
hasalsodonatedtoClintonspoliticalendeavors,campaignfinancerecordsshow.
ThePodestaGroupisanaturalchoiceforthoseseekinginfluencewithClinton.Thefirmwasco-
foundedbyJohnPodesta,Clintonscampaignchairman,andhisbrotherTony,amajorClinton
campaignbundler.
Throughvariousnon-profitgroups,bothGulenistspromotetheclericsteachings,whichare
relativelymoderateandpro-Western.TheyarealsoinvolvedintheGulenmovementsmoney-
makingendeavor:avastnetworkoftaxpayer-fundedcharterschools.
Thoseschools,whichnumbermorethan150,havebeenasourceofcontroversyfortheGulen
movement.
Federalinvestigatorshavereportedlyinvestigatedsomeoftheschoolsforusingworkvisasto
bringTurkishcitizenstotheU.S.toteach.Insomecases,taxpayerfundswereusedtopay
immigrationandlegalfeesforfamilymembersofteacherswhoworkedatthefacilities.Funds
allocatedtotheschoolshavealsobeenfunneledtocontractorscontrolledbyTurkishnationals
withconnectionstotheGulenmovement.
TheconnectionsbetweentheGulenmovementandClintonarenotthefirsttoberevealed.They
alsoaddtoquestionsaboutwhatitistheGulenistswantfromClintonandwhethertheDemocrat
hasrewardedtheirfinancialsupportwithfavors.
LastyearTheDailyCallerreportedthatnumerousGulenfollowershavedonatedtoClintons
variouspoliticalcampaignsandtoherfamilycharity.OneGulenmovementleader,RecepOzkan,
donatedbetween$500,000and$1milliontotheClintonFoundation.
AssenatorfromNewYork,ClintongaveakeynoteaddressattheTurkishCulturalCenters
annualbanquet.
TheemailtoAbedin,whichisthefirstpieceofcommunicationshowingthataGulenfollower
haddirectaccesstoClintonsstaff,soughtafavor.

Someterrorwatchdoggroupsflaggedthemeetings,pointingtoIhsanogluspastpraiseofthe
terroristgroupHamasandforSudanesepresidentandU.S.foeOmaral-Bashir.ButIhsanoglu
doesnotappeartobearadicalfirebrandlikesomanyIslamistsintheMiddleEast.
AsforthePodestaGroup,thelobbyingfirmhasconnectionstoseveralcontroversialcompanies
seekingtopeddleinfluenceatClintonsStateDepartment.
