Presidents Report
Looking back to last Augusts AGM, little could have prepared me for how all encompassing the role
of President would be. Despite my lack of free time since then, I have found my first season as Pres to
be one of the most unique and challenging experiences of my life. My appreciation of Karrinyups rich
history & outstanding culture has certainly grown, and its these things that guide me every time I
make a decision. I would not have been able to get through this season without the assistance of many
outstanding individuals who keep the wheels moving. Past Presidents Ken Dunk, Carl Evans & Matt
OConnell were always there when I needed advice or a question answered, while Sam Norrish was a
huge source of insight as our Committees longest serving member. We had lots of great candidates to
choose from when deciding the Best Clubman, but this years winner could not be more worthy. Ken
Dunk was the first to arrive every Saturday, buying all of our teas and BBQ food, and never shied away
from washing the many dirty dishes left by some! Ken is also coordinating our 2017 UK Tour. At the
age of 61 and after 400 games, he still played almost every game this season and shows no signs of
slowing down.
In terms of our on field results, this season has to rate pretty highly in KCC history. Grades 5, 7, 8 & 9
all participated in finals, with 5 & 7 both going on to host Grand Finals. Considerable credit must go to
Don Boyes who guided a continually changing mix of young and old to an outstanding premiership in
his first season at the helm. Unfortunately the results werent as good in Grades 1 & 3, where we
struggled to gain momentum thanks to a string of losses in October & November. It is essential that
the club works hard to turn things around and get the balance right in our top sides. At times, it has
proven a challenge to put 66 players on the park every Saturday. I believe our persistence to do this
through Gumtree, word of mouth and the like has had the positive impact of bringing some quality
new players to the club, many of whom have fully embraced the clubs culture and social life. One of
the great highlights for me was the calibre of captains I worked with. Veg, Jed, Don, Mal, Scott & Matt
were all extremely committed and easy to deal with. Between them, they missed just one match all
season! I hope a good number of them return to their roles in 2017/18.
To conclude, I would like to ask all members to consider what they can give back to the club next
season. No club remains strong and well run without a committed group of volunteers behind it.
Whether its assisting with running the bar, running training, sitting on our committee or something
else, please consider lending your skills in the lead up to Augusts AGM. I hope to be a President who
pushes for more hands to make light work. Enjoy the break, good luck to those heading to the UK,
and I look forward to seeing you all in a few months.
Special thanks to: Val and Al Jones (curried egg sandwiches), Scott Clifton (bar/training/committee),
Dale Evans (training), Colin Radici (treasurer), Nick Venables (vice-president), Ollie Brennan (secretary),

We started our season off strong with a great bunch of blokes and continued to hold our form
most of the way through. We had players helping us throughout the season or going up the
grades to help our other teams but they always came home to the mighty 8's.
A special thanks to Ken Dunk and Warren Jones for once again helping me with the captaincy
and showing me a few pointers along the way. My pacemen were outstanding this season with
a bit of friendly rivalry at the end but thank you Sergey, Dale and Clint for starting off and at
times finishing our innings.
My spinners, well you certainly did create havoc. Wow, Daz, Des, and Ken, thank you for
holding up the other end weaving your magic. And lastly to my fielders. Duncan, you were
amazing behind the stumps all season, even though you sometimes put suncreen on the back
of your hands. And thanks to Lewis and Nathan for fielding in your spots and everyone elses
as the day dragged on. Im looking forward to another successful season spent with you blokes
and hopefully we can bring the flag home. Thanks for the season Gents.
9th Grade Matt OConnell
Firstly I would like to thank all the guys who played for the opportunity to Captain the team for the second year. It
has again been a learning curve and year that I appreciate and wont forget. I have enjoyed playing with every
single person and happy to have some massive improvements, and personal bests throughout the season.
It was a great season with great guys, which started well and continued like that for the rest of the season (except
for a couple of close losses)
Wombat: Lead by example all year and was good enough to take the reigns when I was away. Didnt miss a single
game all year. A true club legend, at every game early or at the club to help out and back at the club after every
game. I hope more members can be more like you.
Highlights 20 Catches, 190 runs
Cory: Just like dad, was a legend all year. Not missing a single game and always early and keen to help.
Highlights18 Wickets, top score of 40
Pauley: Missed 1 game all year. Always keen to help and never complains great bloke to have on your team.
Highlights 251 Runs, 9 catches
Sacha: Couldnt ask for a nicer bloke to have on your team, top attitude and top performance this year.
Highlights 416 Runs top score 111, 33 wickets (best 7/30), 8 catches
Dave Ashburner: Handy all-rounder to have in the team. Never argued with a decision, but always ready to do
what was asked.
Highlights139 runs (top score 63), 23 wickets.
Rosco: Pity Ross is as old as he is because injury held him back from a good year. Missed a couple but Im sure next
year will be a good one. We all know youll never retire.
Highlights 123 runs, top score 38
Jason: Handy player to have with both bat and ball. Loves to set a field!!
Highlights334 runs top score 68, 11 wickets
Ben Lowrie: Played up and down the grades but another great individual to play in 9s was under bowled but not
next year!!
Highlights 43 runs, 4 solid wickets
Johnny: Missed a bit of the season due to work and alcohol. When he was there it was a sight to see.
Highlights116 runs, top score 40, 6 wickets
Callum: Unfortunately tried to cut off his hand mid season. Happiest bloke ever. See you next year!
Highlights14 runs, 7 amazing wickets
David wheeler: Started sheepishly but by the end of the season some massive improvements. Keep up the hard
work next year!
Highlights 10 runs top score 6
Clint: New to the club this year but someone I see as a future clubman. Glad to have you around
Highlights 17 Runs Top score 9, took a screamer of a wicket
Marc Puttins: Grant Rees Statistical brother 5 runs and took 5 wickets. Only around half the time due to the FIFO
dream.
Lewis Beutel: Lewis filled in for us on a few occasions and as always a pleasure to have. Great bloke.
Highlights 25 runs top score 13

LIFE MEMBERS RESUME
Wombat Fowler & Sam Norrish
The cricket year of 1992 / 1992 saw two gentlemen of similar height and shape join our club and twenty five
years later they are both still here. Their presence, service and cricketing skills have enriched our club and we are
the better for having them at Karrinyup.
Wayne Fowler came to the club via playing indoor cricket with Rob Marlan who had joined the club the year before, Wombat has played 326 games
for the club and is the 6th player to have passed the 300 game milestone, Wombat has played in two premiership sides, the 96/97 Fifth grade
premiership side and the 10/11 One day premiership side. Wombat is a doughty opening batsman and more than useful googly bowler, he is a
reliable gully fieldsman and a competent fill in keeper. He has a highest score of 80 and has scored five 50's and as a measure of his determination
and the value he places on his wicket has a record of 55 not outs from 303 innings. Wombat has also taken 154 catches and through his stints as a
keeper has also effected 4 stumpings. As a bowler Wombat has bowled 1400 overs and taken 248 wickets with five x five wickets hauls and a best of
5/18. Wombat has never shirked a task and has always been available to help when needed, a wonderful all round cricketer and valuable club
member.
Sam Norrish joined Karrinyup in the same year as Wombat and came to the club by being part of the opposition in an indoor competition that some
Karrinyup players used to play in, Sam's team beat Karrinyup in the Grand Final but Karrinyup ended up being the winner as most of Sam's team
ended up playing for us. Twenty five years later Sam still plays the occasional game when needed and is the clubs major sponsor through his
Insurance Broking company Nexus Risk Services and still serves on the Committee. The first time we met Sam he was pushing off the back net
bowling his pacey stuff and over the years saw the light and morphed into a leg spinner . Sam has played 214 games for the club and from his
beginnings worked his way through the grades and was made Captain of our first eleven in 2000 and continued as Captain until 2006. Sam has played
in two Grand Final winning teams, firstly as Captain of the successful
2003/2004 2nd Grade Premiership team and as a member of the 2008/2009 2nd Grade Premiership team. Sam has scored two hundreds, a 2nd
grade 131 no against Maylands in 02/03 which was part of a club record equalling second wicket partnership of 241 with Darryn Longbottom. Sam
also scored 117 no against Canning Vale in 4th grade in 05/06, Sam has also scored 14 50's as part of his 3786 runs he scored for the club and as
proof that cricket has it's ups and downs was also the recipient of the 06/07 Duck award. He is inordinately proud of a six he hit over cover at Mount
Lawley so if you have a few minutes to spare when congratulating him on his Life membership, just ask him. His bowling record shows he has taken
15 wickets with a best of 3/52.
Sam has been a very good cricketer over these many years for Karrinyup but in addition to his cricketing abilities he has shown wonderful leadership
qualities, six years as Captain of our first eleven is a testament to his leadership skills.
Sam has also served on the committee for many years over the course of his twenty five year membership and is still an active committee member
today.
The club is very grateful for the onfield and off field service that Wombat and Sam have provided and it is the opinion of the committee that they be
recognised with the honour of Life Membership.
