Most of the fairy tale story shared the wonderful values and leave us an idea on how to
overcome and develop a life lesson that will bring us to be a good person. Considering
Maleficent could be compare to a bed time story of sleeping beauty. But also it has revised to
suit for the millennial kids to be more engage in the new age. Wonderful graphics to be enjoy
with. Kids been more reminded in literature as sleeping beauty is one as part of our growing
literature, Maleficent tell as a story of sleeping beauty in a different aspect.
In the movie, Maleficent is a fairy who plays a two character, she act as a hero for her
companion. She is the most powerful fairy protecting peace and order to her fairy land the
Moors from the people and the kingdom who was greedy attacking the fairy land to get the
treasures in it. Until one day she met a boy whom she fell in love with, after betrayed by that
boy named Stephan, who was responsible for the lost of her wings. Stephan became a
successor, a king to his kingdom in replaced to King Philip who died from illness. Maleficent lost
her wings and driven by vengeance, uses her power for evil. That was her second character in
the movie the villain . She visited her x lovers newly born daughter that will put her into
death-like sleep on her sixteenth birthday. It was a curse given by maleficent and no one can
broke it, but unless there is a true love kiss. But then the movie showed as how maleficent
cared for that baby as the princess grew older. She secretly guided and protected the princess
to the most care she gave. Unlike to the care given by those three pixies who was responsible in
taking care of the princess in a far away land which the king ordered them to hide it from
Maleficent. In the end, only Maleficent broke that curse with her true love kiss given for that
princess, because she know for herself that she love it so much as her real daughter.
My reflection about the movie is that no person born with the evilness attached to
them. We are born the same like a blank paper. And as we continue to grow, it depends on our
experiences that will drive as to the evilness nor goodness we take. But as we born, we have
that love in our heart will lead as to be united and keep engage with other people we met.
Maybe kids will understand what true love means, as they watch the movie, showing that true
loves does not necessarily means a princess and prince, a guy and a girl the old romantic way
fairy tale use to portray. But kids also know that it exist among family and develop their
understanding about love and forgiveness to other people they met, as will loving their
enemies, like a princess does to Maleficent. The movie tells us values that we may consider, like
anger, guilt, forgiveness and redemption, yet the most powerful of all was our love, a true love
that we will use to overcome all of the evilness in our heart.
