Self Contained Breathing Apparatus
SPIROMATIC S4 is the fourth generation SCBA of NIOSH/NFPA approved Spiromatic-S. The S-series is a major
upgrade and enhancement to the popular and durable Spiromatic model. The Spiromatic S4 is equipped with
a Heads-Up-Display (HUD), Breathing Apparatus Computer (BAC) and Rapid Intervention Connection (RIC) .
It also features a pivoting harness back plate, buddy breathing hose, dual redundant End-Of-Service-Time
(EOST) indicator and integrated PASS. The S4 is a NIOSH certified Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus, NFPA
1981, 2002 Edition Compliant and NIOSH CBRN approved SCBA (High-Pressure version).
Heads-Up-Display (hud) STANDARDS
                                                                           	 NFPA 1981:2002 Edition
A new LED-based display along the left side of the mask lens gives
hands-free indication of remaining cylinder pressure and a visual low APPROVALS
air alarm. The mask frame mounted HUD continues the Interspiro NIOSH 42 CFR (Part 84)
modular design approach: the HUD operates independently of the NFPA 1981, 2002 Edition Compliant
second stage breathing valve. That means lower maintenance costs. NIOSH CBRN approved SCBA (high pressure
                                                                          	 version)
Breathing Apparatus Computer (bac)
The black box mounted on the SCBA backframe monitors the cylin-
der pressure and other data, and then sends that information to the
HUD. The BAC is powered by a standard 9 volt battery. The BAC case
is in its third generation of design, with each generation stronger and
more reliable than the last.
Rapid Intervention Connection (ric)
The new RIC (or UAC, Universal Air Connection) allows for rapid
refilling of cylinders under emergency conditions. The fitting is
common on all 2002 edition NFPA 1981 compliant SCBAs, and al-
lows neighboring departments to rely on one standard RIC solution.
Mounting the Interspiro RIC directly to the first stage regulator makes
for a simpler, more reliable design.
