Recommendations
We recommend that people should try by all means to try and design
their own vacuum cleaners at home and try to replace non working
parts instead of just throwing the whole device it away. Companies
should also try to make vacuum cleaners of the type we have done
using recyclable material avoid pollution.

LITERATURE REVIEW
According to Mark Johnson manager of vacuum .Inco, Dirt is one of the
most major issues worldwide. With the rise of dirt, rised an issue of dirt
related diseases. This issue also raised a concern of constructing a
mechanical device that could help clear dirt easily. People created a
mechanical device called a vacuum cleaner also known as a sweeper.
This device has inflated its prices and its not easy to buy. This device
has also helped decrease the infection rate and also the number of
people who become sick due to dirt related infections/diseases. To
finish/add up on his words he stated that with the infection rate being
low the death rate also will decrease thus increasing the population
worldwide.
Conclusion
A vacuum cleaner is a very complicated mechanical device but is also
an important device. By making this project people will be able to clean
difficult areas thus promoting a healthy and clean lifestyle free from
dirt borne diseases therefore decreasing death rate.
Introduction
We have made a working model called a vacuum cleaner .A vacuum
cleaner also known as a sweeper, is a device that uses an air pump [a
centrifugal fan in all but in some of the very oldest models] to create a
partial vacuum to suck up dirt and dust, usually from floors and from
other surfaces such as upholstery and draperies. It is also known as a
mechanical device using a draft of air to remove dust , loose dirt or
other particulate matter from dry surfaces .it is especially used on high
textured surfaces ,such as carpets, draperies and upholstery that are
difficult to clean by just brushing or sweeping them. For a vacuum
cleaner to work well/function efficiently it has to maintain powerful
suction power the whole time .If the vacuum cleaners bag is full or its
filters are clogged up, its suction power will be dramatically reduced
and wont pick up dust .This is a problem that plagues almost every
type of vacuum cleaner even the bag-less or cyclonic ones that are now
so popular .Vacuum cleaners differ, some may have bags while others
may not have bags.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
I thank Mr. Chibika for supplying us with necessary assistance and other
students. I also thank Mr. Phiri for assisting us with typing our folio and
Mr. Manyeula from physics for supplying us with electric wires and
senior teacher of design and technology for providing us with glue.
Justification
We constructed this project because we have noticed/realized that
many citizens of Botswana spend a lot of money buying vacuum
cleaners that are expensive, not efficient and not easy to operate. We
also realized that vacuum cleaners cant be used in remote areas where
there is no electricity as vacuum cleaners need a power source.
Findings
I have found out that;
our model is very cheap
it works efficiently and is worth the price
its easy to operate
our device can be operated in remote areas
STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
We have noticed that people have difficulties trying to sweep or
clean high textured surfaces such as upholstery, carpets and
draperies
Some vacuum cleaners are expensive and not easy to use[not
user friendly]
vacuum cleaners cant be used in remote areas
Aims and objectives
Aims
Our aim or goal is to construct a cheap/affordable, portable, efficient
and easy to operate vacuum cleaner.
Objectives
We are going to achieve our goal or aim by doing the following;
Research on how to construct it
Follow the guidelines given
Test it to make sure it works
After completing it we will compile all the prices of the
materials used and see if its affordable/cheap
MATERIALS USED
WE USED THE FOLLOWING MATERIAS;
On/off switch
12 v battery
12 v mortar
Glue
Card box
Empty deodorant can
Drink bottle with lid
Paint container
Electric wires
Wire mesh
Bicycle tube
Tape
Hypothesis
Our project will be environmentally-friendly and cheap and it will be
user friendly.
PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED
We faced a problem of;
Lack of funds to buy the material we needed
Lack of time as were told about the trip very late
