Theories of Personality: Catalina T. Waking

The document discusses the neurobiological approach to personality theories and psychiatric disorders. It acknowledges that while the neurobiological approach helps resolve mind-body dualism and informs new assessment and treatment methods, it has limitations and cannot fully explain all psychiatric conditions on its own due to comorbidities. The document advocates considering multiple approaches to understand and care for psychiatric patients holistically, rather than relying solely on neurobiology.

In this article, It was mentioned that Neurobiological approach helps to resolve the mind body
dualism and develop new assessment and treatment approaches in psychiatry. This statement
does not mean that this approach could be the answerer to psychiatric disorders due to its
comorbidity. One Example which was mentioned in the article is the Developmental
coordination disorder (DCD) where in, it is related to the problems in motor skills which is
related to perception. Henceforth, I do believe in the presence of two separate visual streams
which were suggested by numerous studies. Basing on this, I could say that neuroanatomical
approach has a limitation in explaining for perception and action effects as it was also affirmed
in this article. In this case, Psychiatric nurses and other health care professionals involved in the
care of the psychiatric patients have to consider different approaches that could explain the case
of the patient.

In conclusion, psychiatric disorders, involved varied causes not just only focusing on
neurobiological approach. This information would be our inference in providing holistic care to
our patient. This could be of great help in rendering an effective intervention specifically to our
psychiatric patients.
