Industry Sector Configuration

Industry sectors define which material master data fields are mandatory or optional when maintaining materials. Materials are grouped and assigned to material types based on their attributes, which then determine the material's number assignment, required/optional fields, user access, procurement, inventory rules, and value classes. Material types classify all materials and control various functions like field selection and number assignment rules.

Define Industry Sectors and Industry-Sector-Specific Field Selection

In this step, you check the industry sectors and, if necessary, create new ones. You use
the industry sector to determine which fields require an entry when maintaining
material master data and which fields do not (an entry being optional in this
case).

Material Type:

Materials which are having attributes are grouped to gather & assigned to a
material type.

It is nothing but classification of all materials into material types based on

attributes.

Material type controlled functions:

(a) Number assignment: This is Internal /external/batch

(b) Field selection: That is which fields are mandatory, which fields are optional
are hide/display entries.
(c) Which user department use should be allowed in selection view?
(d) External procurement / in House Production.
(e) Inventory is required or not an Quantity/ Value basis.
(f) Which value as class to be allowed etc..
