Variations
Teacher Notes
Three well known chord progressions are presented here, all taken from
the Renaissance or Baroque periods. The three progressions have been
used by many composers throughout history. The Pachelbel Canon chords,
for example can be found in Western pop music (Coolio Ill see you when
you get there, Oasis Dont look back in Anger).
You can use these in many different ways in the classroom
1. As a composing stimulus either using ICT or acoustic instruments, or
both
2. As a sequencing project. The MIDI files of each tune are included in
this pack, as is the Sibelius file.
3. As a practical way of illustrating theme and variations form for
listening exams etc.
4. As an arrangement exercise using Sibelius or similar software.
