AeroCFD Lab 2014

The document provides instructions for importing an STL file into Harpoon CFD software, setting up the mesh resolution and boundary layers, and exporting the mesh as a Fluent file. Key steps include importing the STL file into a new Harpoon project folder, adjusting the far field and surface cell size settings to generate the mesh, checking that the boundary layer has three layers on the fuselage, and exporting the completed surface and volume mesh as a Fluent file.

Create a folder in C:\Local\AeroCFD_Lab and save the DPW4 stl file

Open Harpoon and note the console window

Import the STL file
Import the STL file
Harpoon automatically creates a bounding box
Reset the far field settings for the symmetry plane
Harpoon automatically creates mesh resolution (or base levels)
Note: external, hex-dominant mesh
Select level 3 for the Surface Cell Size
Check the console (117497 cells in 4 seconds)
Last year
Select level 3 for the Surface Cell Size
Check the console (121682 cells in 12 seconds)
Surface mesh
Clip planes
Clip planes 2
Clip planes 3
Turn on the far field surfaces (see the light bulb toggle)
What about the boundary layer mesh?
Check the boundary layer on the fuselage
Why only three layers?
Export the Surface + Volume as a Fluent msh file
