Exercise 6
Transform the following active sentences into their passive voice counterparts, retaining the same verb tense and
aspect. Give the diagram for each.
1. My roommate wrote the lead article in todays Collegian.
2. Bach composed some of our most intricate fugues.
3. My bother-in-law builds the most expensive houses in town.
4. He is building that expensive apartment complex on Allen Street.
5. The County Commissioners will discuss a new tax collection system at their next meeting.

Now change these passive sentences to the active voice; you will have to supply a subject where the agent is
missing. Make up your own, or use someone.
1. The football team was led onto the field by the cheerleading squad.
2. The cheerleaders are chosen by a committee in the spring.
3. Several apartments in our building have been burglarized recently.
4. A shipment of fresh lobsters should be delivered soon.
5. A special election was held on Tuesday.
