Epithelium Cell Types and Functions

This document describes the different types of epithelia cells, including their structure, function, and location. There are 6 main types described: simple squamous epithelium which is thin and found in vessels/membranes, simple columnar epithelium which lines the GI tract and secretes/absorbs, ciliated columnar epithelium which moves mucus, stratified squamous epithelium which provides protection on surfaces like skin, pseudostratified columnar epithelium which lines airways and moves mucus, and glandular epithelium which is found in exocrine and endocrine glands and secretes substances. The different epithelia cells vary in structure and layering depending on their specialized functions in different parts of the body
