THE TRUTH BEHIND TRUANCY: FACTORS WHY SELECTED G7- STUDENTS CUT

CLASSES

I. Introduction and Rationale

Daily attendance on classes plays significant role on how to achieve

good academic performance among students. This is not necessarily perfect
but of attending on important activities, performances, submission of
required outputs and enhancing their academic skills and camaraderie with
classmates.
In relation with this, cutting classes is one of the great factor that
affect the learning process of the student. As an evidence, the researchers
proponents are the selected Grade 7 students as the subject for the said
study wherein it was found out based on their attendance record. The said
truancy activity resulted to poor performances in their afternoon classes
resulted to failing grades and worsen to drop out. It was observed mostly
on male students that committed cutting classes.
The researchers have a high regard on many factors on how gender
differences affects on committing cutting classes. Those respondents with
high absenteeism have a tendency to drop- out on school, at the same time
have low scholastic performances, less cooperative, prone to distractive
learning, emotionally sensitive and less competitive.
There is an overview on the tool selected by the researchers to
address the problems that explained the reasons why most of the Grade 7
students commit truancy.

III. Statement of the Problem

1. What are the factors why Grade 7 students cut classes?

2. What are the effects of cutting classes?
3. What course of actions to be undertaken to lessen cutting classes
incidents?
IV. Scope and Delimitation

This study is mainly focused on the factors why selected Grade 7

students cut classes, its effects and courses of action to be undertaken to
lessen cutting classes incidents.

V. Methodology and Research Design

The descriptive method of research was used in the study; this refers
to a type of research that is fact-finding study with adequate and accurate
interpretation of the findings. It describes what is with phenomena. Its
purpose is to get the classified, generalized and interpretd data for the
guidance and practice in the future ( Receno et al, 2009). As the researchers
use this method conference and anecdotal records of the grade seven
advisers of the selected students. After the consolidation of the gathered
data, the researchers found out that cutting classes of selected grade seven
students are domestic-related factors, individual-related factors, school-
related factors, geographic/ environmental related factors and financial-
related factors.
