Calypso Composition

We are going to use the musical features of Calypso music to create a short composition in groups.

You will need to organise yourself in your group so that each person has a part to play (you can double up but all parts should be covered)

Chords:

G G C C

G G C D7

Use the following rhythm to play the chord progression above in 2/4 time.

Bass Line:

Calypso bass lines are often based around the notes of the chords. Using the below examples, complete the rest of the bass line below to fit
with the chords.
Vocals/melody:

Use the G major scale to compose your melody

Use your melody to compose a simple call & response chorus two simple melodies (call & response) played over the chord sequence.

Remember, Calypso musicians sing about events, problems and issues in society.

Extension:

Compose a verse to go with your chorus. You could use the same chords or change them slightly.
