To collect the necessary data easily and systematically for classifying
1 CHECK SHEET / CHECK LIST information for analysis
To divide data into several groups according to common factors like
2 STRATIFICATION machine, defect, shift, operator etc

Majority of defects are caused by few defective item, which classifies the
3 PARETO DIAGRAM quality problem into the vital few and trivial many (80-20 rule)

Always prefer to use the major categories of problem, as it will give a better
4 CAUSE & EFFECT DIAGRAM focus on the root causes

5 HISTOGRAMS Organize data into groups by counting how much data is in each group

It is a prediction tool and to examine the relationship between the two,


6 SCATTER PLOT paired, interrelated data types and to understand the behavior of the
process
To examine a process to see if it is stable or to maintain the stability of
7 CONTROL CHARTS process
