The document outlines a group learning experience plan using puzzles to teach addition to kindergarten students. The plan aims to enhance students' cognitive skills, communication, and self-regulation. Students will work on two-sided puzzles containing pictures and math equations to practice addition. The teacher will model the activity, observe students working independently and in groups, and increase the difficulty by having students focus on the equations. GROUP LEARNING EXPERIENCE PLANNING SHEET

Student Name: Amanpreet Jassal Course Code: ECS 4070

Age Group: Kindergartens Date: November 2017

Learning Experience: Addition and Puzzle

Programming Purpose: The children are learning how to add. They do worksheets and most of them are having a
hard time grasping onto the content. Thus, I decided to incorporate math with a different approach. I believe the
students will like this activity because they are a huge fan of puzzles! Only correct pieces fit together so the children
can work independently or together.

Objective:

Children will enhance cognition in completing simple number operations (4.20 in the elect document) as they
identif more than, less than, or same as and perform simple operations of adding.
Children will strengthen communication, language and literacy development, specifically in using descriptive
language to explain, explore and extend (3.5 in the elect document) as they use sentences to describe the pictures.
Children will enhance cognition in self-regulation (4.1 in the elect document) as they use language to regulate
their own behavior and attention. For example, frustration may appear after working on the puzzle for a long time.

Materials:

Two sided puzzle (15 puzzles, 45 pieces)

Opening (Introduction): I will work with a group of 3 and put the pieces of the puzzle in the middle.

Body (Content)

1. I will start off by modeling what to do; this will provide the children with examples of whats expected.
2. I will use silence and let the children explore on their own.
3. I will challenge the children by increasing difficulty. I will flip the puzzle over to focus on solving equations
instead of the photos.
4. I will use the questioning technique. Show me how you can make 8.

Closing (Ending): Who had a fun time building the puzzle? What is on the puzzle? Is it addition? Did you enjoy this
activity?

Transition: We are going to pack up and then get ready for snack time. Make sure you get your squirt!
