MISSION STATEMENT
At CIMS, we are committed to providing our students with access to all of the experiences, resources, opportunities and support
that they need to grow as learners, be prepared to partake in and contribute in our school and in the larger global community.
As a school community, our goal is to prepare our students for college and career by establishing a safe, trusting, respectful,
collaborative and caring community with high expectations, competent adults to ensure high quality education and optimum
learning for all of its members.
Experienced and dedicated teachers and staff, partnered with parents, continuously collaborate to provide a strong nurturing
environment within a world that is rapidly changing. We strive to provide the best academic and extracurricular programs in
accordance with higher education standards to develop high performing, successful and ambitious student leaders.
STUDENT POPULATION & ADMISSIONS
Collegiate Institute for Math & Science (CIMS) is a nationally recognized and academically rigorous public high school
established in 2003 under the auspices of the New Century High Schools Initiative by New Visions for Public Schools and the
New York City Department of Education. Admission to CIMS is based on completion of the NYC High School Application and
attending an information session. On average, CIMS receives close to 3,000 applications for 140 seats for the incoming academic
year.
CIMS population stands at 615 students living in the Bronx. Our student population is relatively diverse and is made of up
students from a variety of ethnic backgrounds. Many are children of immigrants, and most will be the first in their families to
attend college.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES _______________________
At CIMS, we offer a range of activities: PSAL Sports (Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Lacrosse, Bowling, Baseball, Softball,
Track/Cross County, Tennis, and Soccer), Student Government, Senior Council & Young Mens and Young Womens Leadership
Programs, Journalism, Social Issues, Robotics, Craft, Gaming and Theatre clubs.
COURSE SEQUENCE & ADVANCED COURSES
All students are expected to take four years of mathematics and science including, Pre-Calculus, or Advanced Placement (AP)
Calculus or AP Statistics, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Chemistry or AP Biology. Students are also provided with the option to
take other AP courses in English (Language & Literature), World History & US History, Spanish Language. They are also
provided with the option to take honors courses. Our current set of honors courses includes English, Anatomy/ Physiology, and a
host of other challenging courses in various subject areas.
Students need 44 credits to graduate. The minimum distribution of credits is: English (8); Social Studies (8); Math (6); Science
(6, including 4 in laboratory sciences); Foreign Language (2); Music / Art (2); Health (1); Electives (7); Physical Education (4.06
credits)
