Marijuana Policy Project. "Medical Marijuana Should Be Legalized." Drug Legalization, edited
by Nol Merino, Greenhaven Press, 2015. Current Controversies. Opposing Viewpoints
in Context. Accessed 4 Dec. 2017. Originally published as "Medical Marijuana Briefing
        Paper,".
The online article, found from opposing viewpoints, favors the legalization of medical
marijuana. The article talks about the Marijuana Policy Project organization that aims to change
US and state laws to eliminate prohibition of medical and nonmedical use of marijuana. The
article is divided into discussions on key points to inform the reader on the medical value of
marijuana, the history of marijuana's legal status, the struggle in court, the compassionate access
program, the support for ending marijuana prohibition, and the need to change the law. There is
no specified author, however, this article clearly supports legalization of medical marijuana. In
comparison to the article on medical marijuana found on ProCon.org both articles help persuade
the reader to be in favor of the potential benefits of medical marijuana. The points this article
brings to the reader's attention, help connect with the reader on an emotional level and logical
level, also the article is easy to follow along and understand. The reader could easily be
persuaded to agree with the pro side of medical marijuana.

       Psychiatric Association, 2000. Accessed 10 Dec. 2017.
To summarize the article, the idea is to understand whether or not marijuana should be a medical
option. Proponents of medical marijuana argue that it can be a safe and effective treatment for
the symptoms of cancer, AIDS, multiple sclerosis, pain, glaucoma, epilepsy, and other
conditions. There is no designated author. The source, controversy to the summary, supports
both the use of medical marijuana and the opponents against the legalization of it. Compared to
the article "Should Marijuana Be Legalized" this article is not as thorough and in depth on the
components of the use of medical marijuana. The article adds a basic understanding to the
individual's idea of the use of medical marijuana.
 Should Marijuana Be a Medical Option? ProCon.org, 2017. Accessed 10 Dec. 2017.
The entire article is a pro con article with multiple view points on whether or not medical
marijuana should be legalized. There is no specific author, instead it is based off of multiple
writers with their own opinions. Multiple viewpoints also clarify the point that there is no
specific viewpoint that the article supports more than the other. Compared to the other articles
listed above, this one is unique due to the fact that it has multiple views under one topic. This can
trigger one's own opinion to come out when talked about.
Should Marijuana Use Be Legalized? usnews.com, 2012. Accessed 11 Dec. 2017.
The article is discussion on the affects marijuana has on people and states. For example, there are
propositions that it does not have any influence on a driver while others have proven statistics
that it does. Other states argue that legalizing the use of medical marijuana could have an effect
                                                                                               Strenger 2
on the level of tourists. Once again, there is no confirmed viewpoint, the article supports either
argument. Compared to the pro and con article, this article is quite similar but more
informational and not as quite opinionated. An individual's understanding of the topic may be
influenced by the connection to other states.
Should Medical Marijuana Be Legal? abcnews.go.com, 2005. Accessed 11 Dec. 2017.
Medical marijuana is a drug and should be contained, however, the people that use it for medical
purposes are devastated. The article is controversial to the idea that it has beneficial purposes but
is also a drug that should be supervised. If you can't drink and drive, you should not be able to
drive while intoxicated by a drug that causes hallucinations. Despite its view on the drug aspect,
the article is favored towards the argument that marijuana should be legalized. In comparison to
the first article listed, the articles are very similar but differ in the overall set up and organization.
The articles use of facts and prior knowledge help influence and persuade the reader's
understanding of the top to be in favor of the legalization of medical marijuana.
Medical Marijuana. drugpolicy.org, 2017, pp. 1-2. Accessed 11 Dec. 2017.
The medical marijuana article is a short informational piece of writing with graphics to inform
and intrigue the reader in more than one way. The article mentions the Drug Policy Alliance
(DPA) which is committed to legalizing marijuana at the state and federal levels and improving
medical marijuana programs to better protect patients rights and access to medicine. The article
clearly favors the use of medical marijuana and believes it serves more beneficial purposes than
harmful ones. Compared to the Pro Con articles, this article actually favors the use of medical
marijuana and doesnt provide evidence of any harmful effects. An individual who is against the
use of medical marijuana would find this article very opinionated and biased, those who are for it
would agree to the legalization of medical marijuana.
Why We Should Not Legalize Marijuana. cnbc.com, 2010, pp. 1-3. Accessed 11 Dec. 2017.
Why we should not legalize marijuana is an article that notes the details on the negative costs of
using marijuana. It refers to the fact that marijuana is the most commonly abused illegal drug in
the U.S. Most fail to recognize that the greatest costs of marijuana are not related to its
prohibition; they are the costs resulting from marijuana use itself. There is no specific author
listed, however, the article is clearly biased towards the idea of marijuana staying illegal. This
article is controversial to the others because it is completely against marijuana, not a single part
of the article favors the idea of medical marijuana being legalized. The article is so persuasive, it
may convince one to change their own opinion on the use of medical marijuana, or marijuana in
general.
Gieringer, Dale. Revenues From Legalization. norml.org, pp. 1-2. Accessed 11 Dec. 2017.
The article is an older article based on revenues from legalization. The article actually supports
the use of medical marijuana and provides graphs and tables of evidence supporting the
economic benefits of legalizing the use of medical marijuana. The author Dale Gieringer has his
PHD and has been proven qualified to write on the topic of legalization of medical marijuana.
The overall article is favored towards the benefits of marijuana. In contrast to the other articles,
                                                                                         Strenger 3
the article has an author listed and evidence to back up the claim. The use of tables and graphs
along with a grammatically detailed article provides the reader with more detailed and precise
knowledge allowing them to feel more connected to the topic and comprehend what they're
reading better as well.
