Joy to the world (and that includes you),
The Lord has come.
What is Christmas about? It can't be only about all of us having a jolly good time. A
carpenter named Joseph is told that the
girl he was betrothed to would have a
child and he is to give the baby the name
Jesus "which means 'the Lord
saves,' because this Jesus is the person
who will save all of His people from sin."
Joseph did as directed. The gospel writer
then adds the comment that all this
happened according to a divine plan.
"Years and years ago, Isaiah, a prophet
of Israel, foretold the story of Mary,
Joseph, and Jesus: A virgin will conceive and bear a Son, and His name will be
Emmanuel (which is a Hebrew name that means God with us). That's Matthew 1:
18-25
Did you notice the order:
Call Him Jesus [for] He shall save people
His name will be Emmanuel, which means God with us
Clearly, the message is that we cannot know that God is with us, until we call on
Jesus to save us from ourselves. This Christmas discover that the very heart of
Christmas is Jesus. When you have Him, you will know that God is with you.
As I look back on 2017, its been a very different one for Roshini and me. While
Elishba, Joe, Sophie and Zach were here only till New Years Eve, Ishaaq, Jess, Priya,
Alisha and Juliet were with us to usher in the New Year.
Ishaaq and family continue to be
in Seattle, where he works for
Amazon Web Services. Ishaaq has
enjoyed his work and moved
within AWS to artificial
intelligence and is enjoying
himself. Jess keeps home, makes
friends and connects the family
with folks. Priya, Alisha and Juliet
are all attending school. Right
now theyre all in Melbourne
visiting family.
Elishba has picked psychiatry as the field of
specialization. Joe continues to work for IBM from
home, but goes into headquarters periodically. This
year he started to teach children at a local school and
enjoys the interaction with the kids. Sophie is in school,
while Zach goes to daycare.
Roshini attends a weekly womens group and enjoys
the involvement. Her health has been good on the
whole.
Back in April of 2016 it was detected that I have chronic
lymphocytic leukaemia. However I remained
asymptomatic for 15 months allowing Roshini and me time to take care of all the
stuff connected with leaving Lucknow and settling down in Trivandrum. This year I
finally had to undergo six cycles of chemotherapy between July and November,
I had no adverse reactions at all. Its all over now, and I dont have to take any
medication whatever. I only have to undergo routine checkups periodically. I got
back to long walks after the second cycle and have been keeping it up. The favour of
God has been my portion throughout everything, and Roshini and I thank God for His
mercies and kindnesses.
May the joy and peace that comes from knowing that you are loved by our Lord be
yours this Christmas, and may the New Year be full of grace enabling you to extend
your reach.
Love,
Roshini & Kuru
