. An accounting information system (AIS) is a structure that a business uses
to collect, store, manage, process, retrieve and report its financial data so that it can be
used by accountants, consultants, business analysts, managers, chief financial
officers (CFOs), auditors and regulatory and tax agencies. In particular, specially trained
accountants work with AIS to ensure the highest level of accuracy in a company's
financial transactions and recordkeeping and to make financial data easily available to
those who legitimately need access to it, all while keeping data intact and secure.

Introduction

Modern organizations are type of organization that are using information systems
extensively, which are computer-based and it can be several forms. The project
assignment is focusing on accounting information systems that will be serving accounts
department in any organization or for accounting purposes

Role of the AIS

The role of accounting information systems is based on business function and


nature of a particular modern organization. Moreover, it is varying based on the size and
type of organization and their business or service industry. However, its general role is
to facilitate reward systems allocation that modern organization will need to reward.

The capturing of financial data is in the traditional accounting information


systems while non-financial data capturing was in the other such as it can be redundant
systems. One example in business is the enterprise resource planning that will be
including to support and to provide financial and non-financial information along with
accounting information systems traditional functions. It is another department for
aligning and processing needs equally.

Role of the AIS in Modern Organizations

Accounting information systems works towards success of the organization when


there is incorporation of information and communication technologies, which is
important role.

In most of the modern organizations, it has become essential that accounting


information systems produce information that is aligned with strategic perspective. This
is one of the major roles that accounting information systems are into. Therefore,
accounts department will not just review internal operations but they will be working
towards producing information that will benefit making external decision.

Role by Accountants in General

An important role that accountants are playing is data processing in accounting


information systems. It will be answering the below questions.

 How are the data supposed to be retrieved, accessed, stored, updated and
organized?

Role by Specific Accounting Profession

 Financial accountants are preparing financial information that is for external


decision-making.

Peachtree is an accounting application for small and medium-sized businesses


(SMBs) made by Sage Software. Peachtree enables comptrollers and managers to
automate and manage numerous accounting tasks.

The Key Features of Peachtree

Master and Sub-stock Items - Automates the process of creating related inventory
items with up to 2 attributes, such as a shirt that comes in different sized and colors.
Fixed Asset Tracking - Complete comes bundled with FAS for Sage 50. It can
calculate depreciation for up to 200 assets and post the depreciation entry directly to
Peachtree's general ledger. FAS can be upgraded if you need more than 200 assets.
Inventory & Services Management Center - Quickly shows you status and
transactions for a selected inventory item (stock or non-stock).
Open Multiple Companies - You can now have multiple companies open at the same

 Customer & Prospect- enables you create a new customer or prospect.
 Vendor- enables you create a new vendor.

3. Tasks- perform accounting tasks (billing customers, cash receipts, pay invoices).

 Ouotes/Sales Order/Proposals- enables you prepare quotes, sales order or
proposals.
 Sales/Invoicing- enables you prepare sales invoices.

4. Analysis- tools to analyze financial status of businesses.

 Cash Flow Manager- enables you to know what cash you have, what you want
to spend and the balance.
 Collection Manager- shows customers outstanding bills with their aging reports.
