Personal Profile

My background is in Marketing, Media & Architecture. I graduated from Oxford Brookes in June 2009 with
a high 2:1 in Interior Architecture. I then became a Marketing Manager for a Monmouth start-up that
specialised in overseas property sales, publishing and product penetration – all areas where I’ve gained
significant practical experience over the last year. I created marketing strategies for diverse products using
online marketing tools as well as tradition marketing strategies; this was in addition to designing websites to
promote new brands. This diverse entrepreneurial role also primed my business acumen, something I aim to
use in future opportunities.

I have been fortunate to have been placed in a diverse range of roles that have moulded me into a
hardworking, passionate and confident employee. Through working and heading many teams I have realised
the need for a diplomatic and motivational attitude to ensure a great working relationship within the team.
This includes the opportunity to complete a summer internship at RRA Architects in Hereford, where I
liaised with clients, contractors and architects.

I have a passion for architecture, having won the final year prize ‘Outstanding Contribution to the Culture of
Interior Architecture’ and gaining strong grades during my degree. I founded and led the Interior
Architecture society, attending and representing the course at review meetings and through a petition to save
the course.

Key Skills and Abilities

• Excellent conceptual design skills articulated through clear draftsmanship and model-making
capability.
• An ability to form close working relationships with customers and to convert that into exciting
propositions to suit their needs.
• Organisation and tenacity in managerial roles and in team working and leadership.
• Proven multitasking ability during the management of multiple projects in both study and
employment.
• Dedicated work ethic to lead and complete both independent and group tasks.
• Creation of architectural designs and plans using Vectorworks, Autocad & Sketchup.
• Website design and publishing using Adobe Mastersuite especially Indesign, Photoshop and
Dreamweaver.
• Creation and implementation of marketing plans for diverse products.

Interests
I enjoy traveling, recently visiting Milan and Morroco, and have a strong cultural awareness gained through
living in several foreign countries. I’m currently training for the Cardiff half-marathon and furthering my
Italian language proficiency in preparation for future visits to Italy. I like to keep up to date within the
design world by regularly reading Wallpaper magazine, taking part in MyArchN online blogs and attending
networking events in Cardiff and Bristol. I like to spend time in a variety of museums with my favourites
being Cardiff National Museum, Design Museum and the Saatchi Gallery. I enjoy walking and have recently
completed the Yorkshire Three Peaks challenge as well as the Brecon Beacons five peak challenge.

Work Experience

June 2010 – Present

Freelance Design: Artijan, DesignStage, The Snax Company.

I am currently working with a few clients producing small 5-page HTML/CSS websites for their businesses.
I have created smaller print projects for a local snacks company. I have had to be self-motivated and in
control over time, organisation and deadlines. I had the opportunity to work very closely with the Senior
Web Developer at Design Stage who tutored me through many Joomla/CMS/HTML/CSS web design
systems.

Sept 2009 – June 2010:

Marketing Manager, KMVF Media

Managed a small team of designers. Projects focused on branding company initiatives and creating
marketing channels within the fields of overseas property, publishing, web and graphic design.

Starting with traditional marketing methods to create successful audience and visibility targets, including
design of print media, networking and writing press releases to enhance the image of our company, I moved
on to driving product penetration with viral marketing initiatives and beyond into social networking media.

As a start-up company, KMVF has also given me the opportunity to head non-marketing projects, such as
leading independent novels through to publication. I have also created product websites and designed
distinctive product packaging. Additionally, I have gained vocational skills in the organisation and operation
of a business, with specific responsibilities within admin and HR, with high use of personal initiative.

Sept 2009:
Invitational Internship, Wales Millennium Centre

A week-long internship learning about the organisation and operation of a national arts venue. This included
a technical and architectural overview of the building, a primer on venue operations and human resource
management; and an insight into events programming.

July 2009 - August 2009:

Sales/Marketing Intern, Creation Theatre

Gained experience in marketing, sales and customer service within the context of theatre management.
Assisted the company on press evenings, acted as PA to the marketing manager and gained leadership
experience within a deputy managerial role.

I spearheaded website management and PR through social networking sites; setup the main city centre
advertising campaign, alongside a self-led publicity venture using bikes. I also liaised with ticketing
companies and organised box office seating. Completed a SWOT analysis to inform the next steps for the
company in strategic marketing.

June 2008 – Sept 2008:

Junior Assistant, RRA Architects

Understudied the Leading Partner in preparing planning applications and feasibility studies. Liaised with
clients and directors while meeting time-sensitive targets. Successfully completed design projects through
the extensive use of Vectorworks, Indesign and Sketchup.
My design projects included: a mill conversion; calculating bat loft volume; an entrance to a church crypt;
new home build project; kitchen and landscape design; a church extension/conversion. I also produced a
practice booklet titled ’32 ways to green your home’.

Oct 2005 – Jan 2008:

Customer Assistant, Marks and Spencer

Whilst at the Bath store I managed inventory and front of house presentation throughout the knitwear and
swimwear departments. I had the opportunity to coach new members of staff and worked well within a team
of colleagues and managers.

I learnt the breadth of my customer service knowledge during my time at Marks and Spencer. I enjoyed
being in contact with customers and quickly learnt that the company was led by what their customers
wanted. I often found myself motivating staff during busy seasons such as Christmas and Sales. I was an
active member in team meetings imputing into sales decisions.

I represented M&S when sent to new stores to train up new staff acting as a source of knowledge about their
products and brand. I really enjoyed this role as it had a great mix of interaction with customers,
responsibility and fantastic personal development.

I represented the university guiding potential students and parents around the university. I enjoyed this small
role as it gave me more confidence with a variety of people.

Jan 2003 – June 2004:

Head Waitress, Greenhouse public house
Sept 2002 – Jan 2004:
Waitress, Pizza Hut

Education

September 2006 – June 2009

Oxford Brookes University; BA (Hons) Interior Architecture, 2:.1
Final Year prize for ‘Outstanding contribution to the culture of Interior Architecture’.

This degree has taught me understanding of how people interact within space. A degree that has given me
confidence within presentation, design and personal ownership. I practiced a great deal of self-motivation
whilst at Oxford Brookes from leading petitions, managing deadlines and representing the course on open
days and annual meetings.

I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Oxford Brookes as I felt I was part of a bigger picture. I work in a
conceptual way, encapsulating the project we are given. I am able to translate conceptual thoughts and
design into a real life situation. My passion and knowledge for Interior Architecture formed a foundation to
develop my presentation, communication, portfolio and architectural design skills.

I was awarded the prize for 'Outstanding Contribution to the Culture of Interior Architecture'. I believe this
as I was the biggest ambassador of the course, I wanted everybody to know how important it is for us to
understand the environments we place people in.

Key Projects
o Thesis analysing ‘The Public Image of an Architect’.
o A live project designing a new space within a nursery to aid learning, play and exploration.
o A final proposal of a street performance theatre called ‘The Pitch’ in Borough Market as an exercise
in making people ‘pause’.

Achievements & Responsibilities

o Founded and led the university Interior Architecture Society.
o Representative for Interior Architecture events and review meetings within the School of Built
Environment.
o Project managed and co-designed all End of Year exhibitions.
o Lead and successfully concluded a petition to save the Interior Architecture course at Oxford
Brookes.
