Advanced Concrete Techniques

This document discusses advanced concrete technology and includes five sections. Section 1 describes designing a concrete mix of M30 grade with specific requirements. Section 2 discusses shrinkage of concrete, the factors affecting it, and the types of shrinkage. It also defines creep of concrete and discusses the factors affecting it and how to measure creep. Section 3 covers superplasticizers, the advantages of fly ash in concrete, and the effect of GGBS on fresh and hardened concrete. Section 4 compares high strength and high performance concrete, discusses fiber types and how they influence properties. It also covers light weight and self-compacting concrete. Section 5 defines durability, the relation to permeability, alkali-aggregate reaction, sulphate attack and methods

ADVANCED CONCRETE TECHNOLOGY

1. Design a concrete mix of M30 grade. Take standard deviation of 5Mpa. The specific gravities of
coarse aggregate and fine aggregate are 2.75 and 2.62 respectively. The bulk density of coarse
aggregate is 1610kg/m3 and fineness modulus of aggregate is 2.70. A slump of 60 mm is
necessary. The water absorption of coarse aggregate is 1% and free moisture in fine aggregate is
2%. Design the concrete mix using IS code method. Assume any missing data.
2. a) What is Shrinkage of Concrete? What are the various factors affecting shrinkage of concrete.
b) Explain in detail about the various types of Shrinkage.
c) Define Creep of Concrete. What are the various factors affecting creep?
d) Explain the procedure for measurement of creep.
3. a) Explain the classification of Super plasticizers and the effect of super plasticizer on fresh
concrete.

c) What is GGBS? What is its effect on fresh concrete and hardened concrete?
4. a) Write the differences between High strength concrete and High performance concrete.
b) What are the types of fibres available in concrete? Explain how the use of fibre influences the
properties of concrete.
