Eating Disorders in Young Females

Eating disorders are the third most common chronic illness and second leading cause of mental disorder disability among young females. Adolescents with diabetes have a higher risk of developing an eating disorder, and adolescent girls who severely diet have up to an 18 times greater likelihood of an eating disorder within 6 months or a 1 in 5 chance over 12 months. Body dissatisfaction is also a major concern for young people according to surveys.
