Suggested answers:
1. About ten years ago, a beaver showed up in New York City.
2. Eric Sanderson thinks that the beaver’s appearance was symbolic because, for ten years, he
has been leading a project to visualise what the area used to look like before the city
transformed it, as there were views in that city where you couldn’t see, except for a person,
another living thing.
3. Before skyscrapers came to dominate the view, New York was a wild place/pristine
wilderness, where a lot of animals such as: beavers, bears and turkeys roamed freely through
forests, marshes and grasslands.
4. Sanderson’s project resulted in a 3-D computer model of New York that allows people to
see what used to be there.
5. Eric Sanderson initiated this project because he wants/wanted every New Yorker to know
that they live/lived in a place with amazing natural potential.
