Software engineer/ computer engineer

B. Why does this career "call to you"?

Because I enjoy computer science and engineering and computer


engineering is a perfect career for me. I enjoy computing and working with
computer systems to develop programs that can one day help everyone.

C. What part of the career are you passionate about?

I am passionate about the part of being able to code new and innovative
programs that can be used by people around the world to make living
easier.

D. What kind of work is involved in the job?

The work involved in computer engineering is the application of the principles


and techniques of computer science, engineering, and mathematical analysis to
the design, development, testing, and evaluation of the software and the systems
that enable computers to perform their many applications.

E. How much money does this career make?

A software developer's average salary of $102,160, is higher than most other


occupations on our technology jobs list.

F. What is the current and/or future job market like for this career?

Employment of software developers is projected to grow 17 percent from 2014 to


2024, much faster than the average for all occupations. The main reason for the
rapid growth is a large increase in the demand for computer software.

G. Outside of education, what are the requirements for this job? Personality?
Experience? Character traits?
A computer engineer must be curious to learn and explore new ideas from
experience. A software engineer must also be an effective communicator
because he/she must have the capabilities to explain his/her ideas to various
teams. Finally, a software engineer must be a divergent thinker: able to think
outside the box.
