Course Objectives:
The goal of this course is to provide students with the critical thinking, reading, writing, and
speaking skills necessary to lead productive lives and to make informed decisions in the future.
With an understanding of America’s past, students have an opportunity to positively impact the
course of history.

Expectations:
The following set of expected behaviors will apply to everyone, teacher included:

Treat others how they want to be treated. Listen actively while others are speaking!
Appreciate the values and experiences of everyone. Think before you speak and act.
Be Prepared.
Arrive to class on-time and ready to learn. Participate in discussions and complete all
assignments on-time.
Be Responsible.
Maintain respectful discourse. Follow directions the first time you are warned. Take
ownership of your actions and work. Understand that all actions have consequences.
Challenge Yourself!
Set high expectations and goals for yourself. Meet them. Encourage yourself to think
and work harder.

Policies: These policies shall be followed in addition to the school’s policies.

Participation: Students are expected to actively participate in all class activities and
discussions.

Beginning/End of class: Students are expected to be in their desks and working on bell work
once the bell rings to begin class. At the end of class, the teacher will dismiss the class, not
the bell.

Absences: After returning from an absence, students are responsible for obtaining missing
assignments from the teacher during non-instruction hours—before or after school.

Cell phones: The use of cell phones for non-academic research is strictly prohibited during
class instruction. It is expected that cell phones are turned off and stored in student’s
backpacks by the start of class.

Late work: Late classwork may be accepted with a penalty of half-credit after the
assignment has been graded and returned. Long-term projects may not be tuned in past the
due date, excluding extenuating circumstances.

Note: Polices are subject to change with notice at teacher’s will based on student behavior.

Grading Policy:
A= 90-100%
B= 80-89%
C= 70-79%
D= 60-69%
F= 59% and below

About Ms. Ranger:

I graduated from The University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and
minors in Anthropology and Adolescence, Community & Education. I’m a member of Phi
Alpha Theta National Historical Honor Society. Currently, I am progressing toward my
Master of Education degree from UofA as well.

In my spare time, I love to spend time with my family, dance, hike, practice yoga, and give
back to my community.

I look forward to a thought-provoking semester with you all!
