Sand Brochure

Slag sand is a byproduct of metal smelting processes that provides several advantages over river sand as a construction material. It has a controlled physical and chemical composition without deleterious materials. Slag sand meets IS specifications and can be used for various civil engineering applications such as backfill, embankments, sub-base for roads, and as fine aggregate in concrete and asphalt. Compared to river sand, slag sand has a more consistent gradation and physical properties that make it a sustainable alternative.

COMPARISON TO RIVER SAND

RIVER SAND BF SLAG SAND LD SLAG SAND

“Slag Sand” is a non-metallic product, consisting essentially of glass containing
silicates and alumino-silicates of lime. Slag is a byproduct of metal smelting
processes, manufactured under controlled conditions. The granulated slag is
obtained by rapidly cooling (quenching) the molten slag from the furnace by
means of water.
