CAREER NARRATIVE
Ever since I was a little girl I knew I was going to help people in some way. My final
decision is to be a Radiation Therapist. I have chosen to find another school or attempt nursing
school as a back-up plan, because no matter what I choose as a career I want to be in a hospital.
I am very goal oriented. I’ve always wanted to help people that’s why I went to the Career
Academy, where I was in the Health Technologies program and graduated with an STNA license,
CPR, EKG certifications, over 60 clinical hours, and dual-enrollment college courses. I have had a
nursing aide job since high school because of this program. I am currently a PCA at The James
Cancer Hospital as well. My desire to be a Radiation Therapist has come from a sequence of events.
Not only did my grandmother die from cancer, but my dad was diagnosed with a brain tumor, which
was a form of cancer. I feel a strong calling to help people with cancer. I intend to finish my degree
at The Ohio State University for my last two years.
I have chosen a path in the medical field. Whichever way I end up going I will be in a
hospital or medical facility of some sort. Both fields go hand in hand; nurses collect the specimens
from the patients and the radiology technician processes the specimens. There are many different
positions and routes I can go down being in the medical field. With perseverance and determination
I will accomplish my goals. Not only did I earn certifications before beginning college, but I am
getting experience in the field everyday while I am learning how a medical facility operates.
