GROUP - I Marks : 10 x 3 = 30

1. Why the polystyrene beads are pre-expanded in lost foam casting process?

2. What is the necessity of cross hatched lay pattern in engine cylinder surface and how it
is produced?

3. Justify the importance of gear finishing process in automobile gear manufacturing.

4. State the importance of stellite deposition on engine valve seat.

5. Shot peening process improves fatigue strength of a coil spring. Justify.

6. What do you understand by the term tailor welded blank?

7. Mention the type of molding and polymers normally employed for the production of
vehicle bumpers.

8. Draw the process sequence flow chart for the manufacture of automobile tyre tube.

9. Why is PVD process better than CVD process for coating thin parts?

10. Enumerate the functions of primer coating in automotive body painting.

boxes. Discuss briefly about the automobile gear manufacturing and finishing process
with neat sketches. Also explain the heat treatment process of automotive gears.

18. List the different types of materials used for manufacture of tyre. Explain the functions of
various elements of a tyre with neat sketches. Also, explain the steps in tyre
manufacturing with suitable diagrams.
