To Whom It May Concern,

I am writing to express my strong interest in the New Graduate Program at Tucson Medical Center, with a
speciRic interest in obtaining a position in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). I will be graduating with a
Bachelors of Science in Nursing this May 2018 from the University of Arizona and am very passionate about
maternal, infant, and neonatal nursing.

My interest in NICU nursing was sparked during my clinical rotation in nursing school. I was able to care for a
neonate who was born at 25 weeks gestation with respiratory distress syndrome and, while in the unit, I
noticed a thank you card with a picture of a different tiny baby with an NG tube alongside a healthy, smiling 2-
year-old child. I am sure these kinds of cards are common, however, as a student, seeing a visual
representation of the impact of this kind of nursing for the Rirst time moved me to tears. I thought of the baby I
was caring for and was inspired by her liveliness and resilience. I also recognized the exceptional skill and
emotional strength of the nurses as they cared for my patient and her family alike, and, in that moment, I was
determined to become a NICU nurse.

I am not only passionate about nursing, but am prepared to be an excellent nurse. During my time in nursing
school I have not only completed the required 800+ clinical hours, but was also accepted and completed a
competitive ten-week, full-time internship on a telemetry unit at the VA hospital over the past summer, as well
as a Rive-week, full-time internship on a cardiac, step-down unit at Banner University Medical Center.
Throughout both of these experiences I was able to care for a full team of four to Rive patients with minimal
assistance from my nurse preceptor. I also currently work at the VA hospital as a student nurse technician, the
equivalent of a nursing assistant, and have simultaneously excelled in the rigorous curriculum at the
University of Arizona’s College of Nursing while maintaining this part-time job.

My experience on these units has enabled me to develop a strong foundation in the nursing profession with
skills such as time management, attentiveness to detail, and prioritization of care. I have noted that your
organization is deeply committed to the values of community, compassion, dedication, and integrity.
Throughout my work, clinical, and internship experiences I have also developed strong relationships with
members of the healthcare team, a personal commitment to compassionate, family-oriented nursing care, and
an exceptional work ethic. Finally, I have received multiple comments from patients, nurses, and nursing
managers complimenting my teamwork, thoroughness, and passion for exceptional patient care and patient
advocacy.

Based on my motivation and experience I believe I am a stellar candidate for your program and will be a
valuable asset to your company as you pursue your mission of providing exceptional health care with
compassion. You can reach me at the phone number or email listed above at your convenience. Thank you for
considering me for this position. I look forward to hearing from you!

Sincerely,
