Emerging Tech Insights for Students

Engr. Jhon Atienza gave a seminar on emerging technologies for students of computer engineering. He discussed technologies currently used as well as prototypes of more advanced versions that are more sophisticated, efficient, and amusing. These included robots, batteries, computer mice, and even invisibility cloaks. Many of these technologies have not reached the Philippines yet, giving students an opportunity to help pioneer their use in the country. The speaker presented the information in an engaging and humorous way, making it the most enjoyable seminar of the year for the author.

Emerging Technologies Seminar: A Reaction Paper

The field of Computing and Information Technology is notorious for being ever-
changing. Every few years new trend in technology emerges making past technologies obsolete.
We students should be better informed as to what technologies are used at present and what
might be used in the near future. Last March 21, 2018 the Computer Engineering department
held a seminar focusing on emerging technologies both consumer level and industry level.

The seminar had Engr. Jhon Atienza who is a professional seminar speaker and trainer of
various technologies with relations to computer. He had this air that it looks he knows exactly
what he is saying, full of confidence in a brighter tone. He is really funny, as a matter of fact, I
never had a good laugh in the past series of seminars and workshops until this.

He had walked us through the common day to day technologies we have, and shows
their most evolved and developed form today, either released on the market or a prototype.
From robots to batteries, computer mice to invisibility cloaks, tons of seemingly ordinary
computer peripherals and devices had been developed by engineers and creators around the
world to be more sophisticated, efficient, and even amusing. Most of them have not reached
the Philippines though, and it is an interesting prospect that computer engineering students can
be part of pioneering these technologies in the country.

The morning session went well, in fact, in the series of seminars held this year, my
opinion is this has been the best and most wholesome. Giving the fact that Engr. Atienza is a
professional educator thought.
