Daemons Vs Deathwing

Kaliban fielded a Deathwing army of Terminators against Labyrinthe's daemonic army in a 1500 point game. The daemons had the early advantage through deep strike but made some mistakes. The Terminators arrived and gunned down many daemons. Later combats saw both sides trade blows without much effect. It came down to the final northern melee where the daemonnettes finally killed the last two Terminators after many rounds of failed attacks. The daemons prevailed in a very close game that could have ended in a draw.

Labyrinthe vs Golden Disciples 1st company 1500pts

Kaliban realised he had enough terminators to field a deathwing army, and so

bought the DA codex in order to represent the terminator arm of his 1st company then
challenged me to an unusual game. Deathwing assault vs Daemonic assault.

It was time to prove who were the masters of deepstrike. How could I turn away
from the challenge?

Deployment

After setting up the board and placing the objectives, I won the roll and decided to take
first turn, forcing Kaliban to deploy his two dreadnaughts on the southern edge of the
board.

It should be noted that the terrain features on the map are in fact rough representations of
the actual terrain we used on the battlefield. The chaos pit in the NE for instance
represents a fetid pond that was present in the actual battle.
Daemons 1

I rolled for daemonic assault and received my chosen first wave.

The woodland to the east of the dreadnaughts was flooded in a deluge of blood, from
which arose the hunched forms of Karanak and his Blood hunt.

To the north the horrors of the crimson lure appeared in a storm of flame, dwarfed by the
spidery form of Zaggaroth and belching forth clouds of fire and warp energy. In the
ensuing maelstrom one dreadnaught was shaken (reduced to stunned by its armoured
plates) and the other lost its multi melta.

Unfortunately, although I declared Ashkara as part of this wave, I forgot to deploy her.
This would cost me dearly.
Marines 1

Crackling with warp energies, the first squads of Terminators arrived.

‘Belial’ appeared with a squad to the west, dousing the horrors in a storm of bolter fire
that proved ineffectual.

A second squad of terminators closed the gap to the north, launching a Crack Missile into
the Zaggaroths rear and shaking him!! Luckily the soul grinder was used to far rougher
treatment at the hands of Asterion, and so he was able to just ignore it.

Unable to fire effectively, the dreadnaughts lumbered eastwards and charged into the
woods, to deal with the Bloodletters lurking there. Khargoth met them head on, but failed
to penetrate their thick armour and found himself banished to the warp along with several
of his squad.
Daemons 2

All the teleport activity had weakened the barrier that separated the warp from reality,
and I received all my reinforcements in one go! Using the Icons from the Blood hunt, and
the Crimson Lure, I prepared my assault.

Ashkara pushed back the northern marine squad to prevent them from charging the
horrors, and Zaggaroth scuttled to rescue the Blood hunt from the Dreadnaughts that were
tearing them to pieces.

I experienced a moment of doubt as I realised that the Dreadnaughts would strike at a

higher I than Zaggaroth but he managed to weather the assault with enough limbs intact
to fight back (just). With the result that he was left immobilised while one dreadnaught
was destroyed and the other had its combat arm torn off by the envigorated bloodletters.
Marines 2

In a mockery of my own lucky reserves rolls, Kaliban received all his reinforcements.
One squad appeared to the south, gunning down a couple of daemonnettes, while the
other appeared to the north east.

Mazed by the changelings illusions, the Chaplains squad, already on the ground in the
north, opened fire on their newly arrived brothers, killing one!!!

Belial’s squad charged the lost souls of the covenant, slaughtering almost half their
number. While in the woods to the east, Zaggaroth finished off the remaining
Dreadnaught.
Daemons 3

I unleashed my assaults, cackling with glee at all the combats in which I both
outnumbered and outclassed my opponents. This would be a short game.

In the south the bloodhunt assaulted their targets. In the west the Spiral Masque swarmed
Belial and his cronies. In the north Asterion assaulted a squad, aided by both Ashkara’s
powers to draw them out and reduce the return attacks he would suffer, and a co-
ordinated assault from the crimson lure designed to keep that Thunder hammer away
from him.

Things did not go as planned.

Asterion only killed a single marine, taking a wound in return and another three thanks to
the three horrors who were killed (he didn’t pass a single save).

The Bloodhunt fluffed their attacks, killing no marines and loosing half their squad in
return.

Only the Spiral achieved their goal, wounding Belial and reducing his squad to a single
man in return for negligible casualties.
Marines 3

The chaplain and his squad charged and slaughtered Ashkara. Everything else was
ongoing combats.

In the east, the horrors fought on, loosing only a single daemon to their foes.

In the south the remainder of the bloodhunt were wiped out and a lone terminator
emerged from the combat, consolidating towards the objective in the woods.

To the west, the spiral finished Belial and his crony, consolidating northwards toward the
Chaplain.
Daemons 4

The spiral Masque and the Covenant charged assaulted the Chaplain and his squad, but
did little damage. Luckily they received little in return.

The terminator squad to the east of them finally finished the crimson lure and prepared to
rush to their brethrens aide.
Marines 4

The lone Terminator in the south rushed to cover the objective in the woods.

The final terminator squad charged into the northern melee.

Note: This map shows the situation before combat was resolved

Despite their reinforcements however, The Spiral excelled themselves, and only the
chaplain and a single Terminator were left standing.
Daemons 5

Zaggaroth attempted to Phlegm on the Terminator standing a few yards in front of him,
but only succeeded in splashing himself with it (embarrassing really)

The combat in the north continued without a single wound being caused on either side.

Marines 5

Kaliban realised that Zaggaroth was contesting the southern objective, and promptly
charged him to rectify the matter. Luckilly all he achieved was a heroic death.

This left the northern melee as Kalibans only hope of a draw. All he needed was for at
least one model to survive long enough for the game to end.

Terminator armour proved equal to daemonic might and the combat continued with no
casualties, leaving the possibility of a draw.

Our friend on the next table rolled the dice… a 4… the fight would continue.

Daemons 6

The combat stretched on, and in a series of botched dice rolls both sides continued to
prove equally incapable of killing each other!!
The marines just needed to survive one more phase for another shot at a draw.

Marines 6

Finally the daemonnettes gained the upper hand, and both space marine survivors were
summarily dismembered.

The labyrinthe had prevailed. Barely.
