To Whom It May Concern:

This correspondence is in regards to the registered nurse position in the Labor & Delivery unit at St.
Joseph’s Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. I am graduating with my BSN from the University of Arizona in May
2018. I believe I am the best fit for this job because of my passion for labor and delivery. I am excited about
accompanying new moms along the journey that is labor and delivery because of the joy and hope that is
often associated with this specialty. Unlike other specialties, Labor & Delivery is unique because it brings
new life into the world. I have a deep passion for this specific area because of the joy that is often associated
with bringing new life into the world. It is incredibly honoring to play a part in a patient’s story, and to play a
role in one of the most intense and rewarding experiences of their life. I also believe that I am the best fit for
this job because I recognize how imperative emotional support and encouragement is during the process of
labor.

In addition to the education I received at the University of Arizona College of Nursing, I spent five weeks on
a labor and delivery unit—totaling 180 precepted clinical hours. Furthermore, I also 75 clinical hours within a
labor and delivery unit prior to acquiring my preceptorship. During this time, I was fully immersed into this
specialty and began learning numerous skills, including: interpretation and documentation of EFM,
administration and titration of Pitocin, and providing overall total patient care for a laboring mother and her
infant. Due to the strong exposure and training that I received during nursing school, I believe that I have
encountered a clear and accurate picture of the specialty that is labor and delivery. I am motivated by the
critical thinking skills necessary to be successful in this specialty, and I am eager at the prospect of providing
compassionate and relational nursing care. Furthermore, I strongly identify with the faith-based values
upheld and represented by Carondelet Healthcare facilities, specifically the desire to provide
compassionate and healing care.

During my time in University of Arizona’s nursing program, I was an active member of various clubs,
including the Arizona Nursing Inclusive Excellence Program (ANIE). Furthermore, I was also an active
member of SNUA, or Student Nurses at the University of Arizona. Each of these involvements included
participation in philanthropic events, as well as taking on leadership roles. I was able to encounter the
importance of leadership within the field of nursing, as well as the importance of promoting diversity and
equal care.

I am grateful for this opportunity, and I am eager to hear further from you. Thank for your time and
consideration.

Sincerely,

McKenna Foxworthy
