SAMR Goal Setting
About this self-assessment:
The purpose for this self-assessment is to reflect on your current teaching practice using technology and to create your own instructional goal(s) for
the school year that focus on building capacity in identified gaps in your current instructional practices based on the SAMR Model. To help create
your individualized goal(s) follow the steps below.
1. Read through the examples on the following pages and highlight any that are already occurring in your classroom. (To complete digitally,
right-click on the cell you would like to highlight, choose “Table Properties”, then select the “Cell Background Color” drop-down menu and
choose a color to highlight the cell.)
2. After you are finished highlighting what you already do in your classroom, look at the following as you decide your goal for the upcoming
school year:
a. Look at the level(s) (columns) and identify which level(s) you could build capacity on. For example, if almost all the highlighted cells are in
the “Substitution” column, look at creating a goal in another level.
b. After identifying the level you would like to goal to focus on, choose a specific goal. You can choose from the examples in the related
column, modify one of the examples to better fit your classroom and list in a blank cell of the related column, or create your own goal and list on the
column you believe it falls into.
3. Goal setting for this school year - fill out the table on the following page with your goal and supporting information.
*The SAMR Model for technology integration shows different “levels” of technology integration into classroom instruction and
activities. You could look at the SAMR model as similar to Bloom’s Taxonomy, whereas the goal is always to incorporate to the highest
level but knowing all levels belong in some capacity of classroom instruction.
