Born on December 8, 1978 in Covington, Louisiana, Ian Joseph Somerhalder is an American actor, male fashion model, and
producer. His father was of French and English descent, while his mother is of Irish and Choctaw descent. They divorced when he
was 13, and Ian grew up with his mother, who raised him on Eastern medicine and organic foods. He has kept to this strict,
healthy diet, which was a likely reason for his foray into the world of modeling. He began his career at the age of 10, getting a
contract with the Ford agency in New York. Some of the companies he has worked for include Calvin Klein, American Eagle
Outfitters, Guess? and more.
As for acting, Ian Somerhalder has appeared on several television shows and films. Though he was seen on series like The Big
Easy and Young Americans, one of his most notable earlier roles was that of Paul Denton in the movie The Rules of Attraction in
2002. Other appearances of his include those in Anatomy of a Hate Crime, Life as a House, Changing Hearts, and an episode of
CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. In 2003, he got a part in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and was next seen on CSI: Miami.
The next year, Somerhalder played U.S.S. Swordfish: Danny Miller in the movie In Enemy Hands, and later starred as Adam
Knight in six episodes of Smallville. At that time, he joined the first season of the hit ABC series Lost as the character Boone
Carlyle. He then got roles in Pulse, a remake of the Japanese horror movie Kairo. Somerhalder’s next project was the HBO series
Tell Me You Love Me, where he played Nick. He later appeared in 2008’s The Lost Samaritan and Lost City Raiders, as well as
obtaining roles in Wake, How to Make Love to a Woman, Fireball and The Tournament.
In 2009, he was cast in the 2009 CW teen drama fantasy Vampire Diaries as Damon Salvatore, the vampire brother of Stefan
Salvatore (Paul Wesley) who serves as the show's anti-hero.

role as Edward Cullen on the movie adaptation of the widely popular vampire-themed novel Twilight and Cedric Diggory in Harry
Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Pattinson’s foray into acting began when he got involved in amateur theater through the Barnes
Theater Company. He started out with functions in the backstage, before taking on acting roles. Thankfully, he got the attention of

Up until I was 12 my sisters used to dress me up as a girl and introduce me as 'Claudia'! Twelve was a turning point as I moved to
a mixed school and then I became cool and discovered hair gel.
It's strange, somebody asked for my autograph the other day. Because I finished school and I'm not really doing anything at the
moment, I was just kind of aimlessly wandering around London and these two guys who were about 30 came up and asked for
my autograph. I was really quite proud at the time, and they wanted to take photos and stuff. And then they were sort of
wandering around and I was kind of wandering around and I bumped into them about three times, and every single time their
respect for me kept growing and growing and growing.
They [Barnes Theatre Club] were a very good group, and for some reason when I finished the backstage thing, I just decided to
that I should try to act. So I auditioned for Guys and Dolls and got a little tiny part as some Cuban dancer or something and then
in the next play I got the lead part, and then I got my agent. So I owe everything to that little club.
I aspire to be Jack Nicholson. I love his every single mannerism. I used to try and be him in virtually everything I did, I don't know
why. I watched One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest when I was about 13, and I dressed like him. I tried to do his accent. I did
everything like him. I think it kind of stuck with me.
The day before [the Harry Potter London premiere] I was just sitting in Leicester Square, happily being ignored by everyone. Then

I didn't want to get stuck in pretty, public school roles, or I knew I'd end up as some sort of caricature. Playing Dali has been a
complete turning point for me. It's the first part I've had that has required really serious thought. I became completely obsessed
with Dali during the filming, and I read every biography I could get a hold of. He was the most bizarre, complex man, but in the
end I felt I could relate to him. He was basically incredibly shy.
I wasn't at all focused on school, and I didn't achieve much. But I've got a sense of urgency now. I feel I can't let any more time
waste away.
"Twilight' is a metaphor for the virtues of chastity, but it's had the opposite effect. I get letters that say "I'm going to kill myself if
you don't watch 'High School Musical 2' with me. It's a little nuts."
