During fall semester assigned readings and documentaries were given in preparation for Brazil. The history of, and topics
such as environmental quality, ecology, resource conservation and international development were covered. This prepared
us to effectively discuss potential solutions with Geologist, Hydrologists, Architects, Urban Planners, and Biologists. Some
issues discussed in each city were:
• Manuas – species extinction, forestry, deforestation, climate change, and river morphology in the Amazon basin
• Rio de Janiero - energy issues, water quality, and natural resource conservation
• Curitiba - urban planning, transportation, and sustainability
• Foz do Iguacu – impacts of dams and electricity generation (hydro, wind, geothermal, etc.)
STOCKTON UNIVERSITY FOREST FIRE RESEARCH GALLOWAY, NJ
Research Technician Sept - Dec 2016
Worked as a field technician for Dr. Zimmerman preparing the pinelands on Stockton University grounds. The purpose of
this research was to understand the effects of fire on pineland environments and species. The expected outcome was to
report effects of forest fire on variable outcomes when burned at different intervals (1-2 years, 2-3 years, 3-4 years, and
etc.) Duties included:
• Reproduction plots; canopy cover
• LiDAR mapping
• Measuring total height, height to live crown

Field Technician March 2016 – present
The arboretum is an enclosed area where Dr. Zimmerman has imported pine trees from states along the east coast. He
aims to tag them and monitor their growth. The arboretum has plantations to support local pollinators as well. Job duties
include but not limited to:
• Planning new projects or planting
• Monitor tree health and report unusual findings
• Maintain an aesthetic appearance with the use of hand/power tools for landscaping
• Maintain a small pond

Using a handheld gps unit, coordinates were used to help the staff install a fence along the sand dunes. The purpose was
to protect seabeach amaranth and piping plover nesting sites.

Helped nursing staff to feed patients, replenish their beverages, and create a nice atmosphere by talking to them.
