From Our Pastor ~
WELCOMING OUR MISSION PRIEST
As we do each year, this weekend we have the honor to welcome a mission priest to our
parish to open our eyes to the broader Church throughout the world and to give us the
opportunity to help the Church continue to grow by our financial support. This weekend,
Msgr. Jerome Feudjio from the Diocese of St. Thomas in the U.S. Virgin Islands visits us.
Msgr. Feudjio is the Rector (“Pastor”) of the Cathedral in his diocese and also the Vicar
General of the diocese (basically, the bishop’s right-hand man).
The 2017 hurricane season hit the Virgin Islands, along with the rest of the Caribbean,
in a devastating way. Naturally, this had its impact on the Church there, as well.
The diocese there is in grave need of resources for a variety of reasons.
Feeding and sheltering those people who have been so affected ranks high among these
needs, of course. However, there is also a great need to rebuild the spiritual and physical
reach of the Church: to purchase liturgical vestments and sacred vessels for Mass, to repair
and/or build new churches, to buy generators for the churches
(there are still many power outages), etc.
As I have said numerous times before, I have trust greatly in the generosity of the people of
this parish, especially in response to so worthy a cause.
Please consider donating to Monsignor’s diocese – if you would like to write a check, please
make it payable to “St. Joseph Church” with “Mission Appeal” in the memo line.
You can also bring a check next week and put it in the basket, if you aren’t prepared to give
today but would like to do so.
Finally, please be certain to pray for Monsignor and his diocese as they continue to rebuild
after such a trial.
I am grateful to Msgr. Feudjio for offering this weekend’s Masses, giving me an opportunity
to be away from the parish. Please be assured of my prayers for you all, as well!
~Fr. Clayton
