less than be unemployed and earn 25% less than the whites ( Bertrand, Mullainathan)
                                                                                                  Wong 3

risk of facing jobless discrimination. (Nittle)
     2. The bias is not only factor destroying African Americans looking for work, many companies but
also don’t even notice their openings (Nittle)
B. They have weaker job network in workplace (Nittle)
           1. Find a job depend who you know. The African American don’t know the job opening and
               it disadvantage for them. (Nittle)
     2. Credit checks by employers work against the black workers (Nittle)
a. There are many company check the credit history that is harm to the African American. Jobless

American take disadvantage in credit check. (Nittle)
b. Credit history prevent them to get a good job because they are difficult to get a good job to
maintain good credit.
IV. Solution for those issues to stop discrimination in African Americans in the workplace
A. Use their own power to give pressure to discriminating employers
                                                                                                   Wong 4
B. Because the law doesn’t help the African Americans in discrimination ( Title VII of the Civil Rights
Act of 1964 (Title VII), which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex,
or national origin), they can use their power of social media and the principle of government
transparency to give pressure on discriminating employers. (Cohen)
C. Mark down everything that is discriminated and talk to the lawyer to get help.
     1. Keep a diary of discrimination and find a company that is anti-discrimination policy (Henry)
     2. Read the employment and discrimination law in your state and the federal laws. The US Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission has a lot of federal laws to employment discrimination.
There maybe has laws that is fit to your situation. Go to the labor department to get help.
        (Henry)
D. Because hire a lawyer is expensive, if there is no one help, the last solution is to quit the job.
V. Conclusion
A. Although there is a law to protect the African Americans not to be discriminated, there still are
some serious effects that affect them in the workshop. The two main unfair effects are less job
opportunities in the workplace and less salary than the whites. The solution is to find the lawyer help.
                                                                                                  WONG 5
Introduction
Although there is a law to stop discrimination ( Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title
VII), which prohibits employment discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin) ,
discrimination toward the African Americans still is a serious problem. Because of the history of
slavery, discrimination still exist against them. It affects them in the workplace. Most of the African
Americans (88%) think it needs to be improved to achieve racial equality (Dimock 4). There are
six-in-ten Americans say needed more changes to achieve racial equality (Dimock 4). There are 64%
of blacks think they are treated less fairly in the workplace. (Dimock 4). The two main discriminating
effects are they get fewer job opportunities and less salary than the same white candidates. African
Americans are the victim of joblessness. Research shows that unemployment rate is 16.7%, is more
than twice of white and 2010 Census shows that African American only earned 58.7% of the white
salary. (Schwartz 3) In the same qualified candidates , the African Americans earn less and receive
fewer opportunities, that shows unfair treatment against them ( Schwart 1). In addition , Employer hire
whites candidates from less reputation university more than Black candidates from well-known school.
That shows the discrimination against the African Americans. The problem they face in the workplace
is they have less network in the workplace and they don’t have a good credit history. There are many
company check the credit history that is harm to the African Americans. Joblessness tend not to have
well credit rating because unemployed is difficult to pay bill such as rent and cost of living. As a result,
the African Americans take disadvantage in credit check. (Nittle) Credit history prevent them to get a
good job because they are difficult to get a good job to maintain good credit.
                                                                                             Wong 6
