Lesson Topic: Animals- First Grade- Lesson 2
Write a brief summary of your experiences teaching this lesson, addressing the following
questions:
What went well? What did not go well? (Cite specific examples)
Again, the overall lesson went well. The classroom teacher and I broke the lesson
into 2 days. She did the first part going over animal needs. It was great to observe
this and be able to piggy back it for my part of the lesson.
How well were the lesson’s student performance objectives attained?
The lesson objectives were attained. The students were able to understand that
an animal needs air, water, food, and shelter. The students were all able to
complete the animal or plant sort and understand the objectives.
Did classroom activity center on science understanding, inquiry, and sense-
making by all students?
Yes, this lesson led to understanding by all 1st graders in the classroom.
Did your scientific content knowledge enable you to support students’
construction of knowledge and understanding of important scientific concepts
and processes?
Yes, my knowledge helped, but I had to remember to bring everything down to a
1st grade level, again. It was fun working with this age group, for the short time I
was in there.
When you have the opportunity to re-teach this lesson, what will you do
differently (strategies, teaching tools, assessments, etc.) to improve student
learning for all students?
Time was a bit of a problem and everything took slightly longer than I expected.
We did not expand and get to the part where the students shared. If this was my
classroom, I would have more control over the time and knowing the needs of
the students, I would be able to complete all parts of the lesson.
