BACKGROUND OF THE COMMUNITY
According to the data posted on the official bulletin board at the Barangay Hall,
Barangay San Jose Sico, formerly called San Jose plainly, is located northeast of the
Municipality of Taysan, northwest of Ibaan West of Barangay Bilogo, Batangas City, and
South of Barangay Talumpok Silangan, Batangas City. San Jose Sico is one of the 105
barangays constituting the City of Batangas. From the SM jeepney terminal, average
travel time is just less than an hour. It is a rural settlement with a total land area of 4,051
square kilometers and is divided into 11 sitios. Forest, streams, low-rolling hills, and crops
are found everywhere within the locality. Commercial and residential establishments are
situated commonly along the national highway, as well as in the minor roads.
According to the most recent census by the Philippine Statistics Authority as of
2015, the barangay has a total population of 4,981 (PSA, 2015). The barangay programs
and services, provided by both public and private institutions, include scholarship grants,
feeding program, EBD Health Card, PhilHealth Card, Rural Improvement, 4Ps (Pantawid
Pamilya Pilipino Program), LPU/UB Students Community Services, Medical Missions,
Cattle Fattening and ALS (Alternative Learning System). There are also industrial and
business profile established including the Mercado’s Farm, Maranan’s Farm, Rentorias
Farm, Alay Fish Pond, Angeline’s Farm, MRF Landfill, Veraflow Water Distributers, Landfill
Cooperative, Tricon Construction, and the Macaraig Waste Guard.
There are both public and private education facilities and institution listed in the
official barangay bulletin board that serves the community especially the youth including
the San Jose Day Care Center and Elementary School, God Grace Learning Foundation
Center, Sibol Day Care Center and Bagong Silang Elementary School. The Health
Facilities that offers free medicine, vaccination and other services are the Bagong Silang
Health Center and San Jose Sico Health Center. Aside from these, there are other facilities
that also serves the community including the Barangay Outpost, Batangas City Jail, a
controlled dumpsite, a multi-purpose hall, Youth Center, Senior & Guardian Hall, Gawad
Kalinga Hall, Jose Laurel Restoration Center, a market, waiting sheds, and chapels.
The common sources of income of the population in the barangay are from
farming, hogs and cattle raising, carpentry, driving, electrical repairs, construction, and
small-scale businesses like sari-sari stores. The community have various religions
including Iglesia Ni Cristo, Roman Catholic, Iglesia Filipina Independiente, Baptist,
Jehovah’s Witness, Born Again, Seventh Day Adventist, Mormons and Rizalito.
The city landfill and a relocation site of Batangas City is situated in the barangay.
When it comes to energy supply, both the Batangas Electric Cooperative and Meralco
provide electricity in every households. The internet connectivity is supplied by PLDT,
Smart and Globe Communications especially wireless services. The sources of water
used by the community are from artesian wells while some are administered by pumping
stations from the Batangas City Water District. All of this information are from the official
