 1.2 Abstract
The I/A SCADA SCD5200/RTU50 System Configurator is a Java-based tool
for configuring the I/A SCADA Station Computing Device (SCD5200) and
                    Remote Terminal Unit (RTU 50).
The graphical and mouse-based configurator provides a browse capability of
                    configurations in a windowed environment.
The SCD5200/RTU50 System Configurator is primarily designed for the I/A
                    SCADA Station Computing Device (SCD5200).
While the RTU 50 Configuration Utility (RTUCFG) continues to provide
configuration support for the RTU 50, the SCD5200/RTU50 System
Configurator supports a subset of the Remote Terminal Unit (RTU 50)
input/output modules, subsystems and communications protocols.
The functionality supported by this first release is described in Section 2.
The known problems and limitations of the SCD5200/RTU50 System
Configurator are discussed further in Section 3.
 1.3 Audience
This document is intended to be read by individuals who are installing or using
                    the SCD5200/RTU50 System Configurator.

 2. Functionality
This release of the System Configurator is designed for use in configuring the
SCD5200 and RTU50 and their associated files, cards, subsystems and
                    protocols.
 2.1 System Requirements
The minimum system configuration for running the SCD5200/RTU50 System
                    Configurator is:
                    1. Windows 2000/NT/XP (Professional Edition) Operating System. Windows
XP (Home Edition) is not supported.
                    2. 128 MB RAM.
                    3. 125 MB disk space for install files + 50 MB swap space.
In addition it is recommended that the SCD5200/RTU50 System Configurator
be run on a 400Mhz Pentium, or faster, CPU.
                    The SCD5200/RTU50 Configurator requires:
                    1. Java Runtime Environment J2RE version 1.4.0/1.4.1.
                    2. PostgreSQL Database Server + Cygwin UNIX environment for Windows.
 2.2 Configuration Support
The following pages list the files, cards, subsystems and protocols specifically
supported for the Station Computing Device SCD5200 and Remote Terminal
                    Unit RTU 50.
For definition of files, cards, subsystems and protocols short titles refer to
System Configurator User Manual for the RTU50 and SCD5200 [2] .

 4. Installation
For minimum system configuration for running the SCD5200/RTU50 System
                    Configurator refer Section 2.1.
The SCD5200/RTU50 System Configurator bundles the Cygwin UNIX
environment, PostgreSQL database and Java Runtime Environment with the
configurator software. To ensure that the correct JRE is available, the install
process always installs the JRE to the target machine. Some users will have
pre-existing installations of Cygwin and the install process permits the user to
not install this component in that case, preferring to use the existing
installation. In the usual case the pre-existing installation of Cygwin will be
without the PostgreSQL database, which must be installed within the Cygwin
                    environment.
The SCD5200/RTU50 System Configurator is provided as part of the 1101190
RTU50/SCD5200 Installation and Configuration Suite release [1]. For most
users, a short introductory menu will be displayed automatically when the
release CDROM is loaded into the engineer's workstation. If this does not
happen automatically, open the file D:\menu.exe, where D is the drive letter of
                    the CDROM drive.
The introductory menu contains links to the installation program for the
SCD5200/RTU50 System Configurator, and for several other related Foxboro
products. Make sure the check box next to the SCD5200/RTU50 System
Configurator option is checked then click Install to begin installation. Follow
the on-screen instructions to select the installation directory. Accepting the
default installation path is strongly recommended. A desktop shortcut and Start
Menu entry for the SCD5200/RTU50 System Configurator will be created.
To ensure correct operation of the installed components, the installation
program will automatically set several environment variables. Windows 95, 98
and Millennium Edition users will need to restart Windows for these changes to
                    take effect.
For trouble-shooting, and installation of the PostgreSQL database with a pre-
existing Cygwin installation, refer to the System Configurator User Manual for
                    the RTU50 and SCD5200 [2].
