Reflection
English 2100 – technical writing was a class intended to teach the basics of business
style writing. A writing class designed to instruct students in writing styles which are pertinent
to modern work environments. Honestly, this class was the most useful of any English writing
class which I have taken. Other classes in the past have focused solely on assessing the writing
styles found in various types of literature. This would prove useful for many fields of study, but
not so much for science and engineering. Technical writing on the other hand will prove much
more useful; having mainly focused on business proposals, memorandums and resumes.
This reflection and webpage were written and created for the third and final project in
English 2100. Serving as a collection of previously completed assignments from this class.
Contained within the webpage are my cover letter and resume, a sample memorandum, and
project 2 with an applicable outline. This project serves as an online portfolio required by many
of the classes at Salt Lake Community College. Sometimes technical writing has both visual and
text-based elements, this project serves as an example of both.
The class was truly enjoyable and I am glad to have taken it. My professor, Elisa Stone,
was friendly, personable and immensely helpful; which is something rarely encountered from
an online class. I’m confident that what I have learned from technical writing will prove useful
throughout my future career as an engineer. I would recommend that everyone attending
college at SLCC take this class regardless of their field of study, it will inevitably prove to be
useful for any career choice.
