1.0 PURPOSE
The purpose of this procedure is to prepare a sequential system & control on the
Survey activities to achieve the desired product to the satisfaction of Client/
consultant.
2.0 SCOPE
This procedure is applicable for the survey work for all kind of land survey required to
establish bench mark, levels and to fix -up coordinates of, foundation, structures for
Civil & Structural works including enabling works or revamp of VGO- HDT unit for BS-
IV project.
In brief it controls the following activities.
1 Site clearance.
2 Fixing of permanent Benchmark.
3 Fixing of reference points / Grid pillars.
4 Layout and survey.
In case of conflict between this procedure and the contracts specification, the
contract specification shall govern.

4.0 METHODOLOGY
4.1 Equipments
Measuring steel tapes, Auto Level, Leveling staff, Electronic theodolite instrument,
plumb bob, line threads, lime powder for marking, wooden pegs, nails, paints, and
other helping aids. All measuring and survey instruments shall have valid calibration
certificate.

4.2 Acceptance Criteria
Project approved drawings and tKIS specifications will be the basis of acceptance
criteria.
The sequential activities and corresponding methods are detailed below:
4.3 Site clearance
Shrubs, bushes etc, shall be cleared off from site location. Cleaning, grubbing etc.
shall be completed before starting of site layout, Necessary profiles with pegs,
bamboos; burjies shall be made to show the formation levels before survey work
starts, if required.
4.4 Bench Mark
Permanent bench mark at site shall be established at battery limit or at the suitable
location with reference to the standard local benchmark approved by client/ consultant.
For all construction activities, the same bench mark shall be used and this permanent
Bench mark shall be made of concrete pillars of sufficient depth & size as per site
requirement. It will be fixed with M.S insert plates on top of which punch marking for
coordinates & RL shall be done.
4.5 Reference Points
Reference Points in and around sites with respect to permanent benchmark shall be
marked and these points shall be made of masonry pillars or wooden pegs with a nail
on top. All reference points shall be checked and guarded against any disturbances.
All the survey pillars shall
be marked with reference level, coordinates and these shall be offered for tKIS
inspection.
4.6 Layout and Survey works
The Layout shall be done in accordance with approved drawings and shall be offered
for tKIS inspection and record of the layout inspection shall be submitted to tKIS.
Detailed layout of survey work for the location of individual structures shall be done
with respect to North direction.
Checking of survey work and confirmation of location and orientation of structures
shall be done with respect to the whole project layout plan.

All the marking /grid lines/ levels, etc shall be transferred to permanent
structures after completion of jobs.
All utilities, underground and above ground shall be identified and recorded on Survey
inspection report-Format.
5. DOCUMENTATION AND RECORDS:
Documentation should be done as per ITP for Land and topographical survey.
