Multiuser OS: Social and Ethical Issues

A multiuser operating system allows multiple users to use the same computer at the same time or different times. Examples include Linux, Unix, and Windows 2000. While viewing another user's file names may happen inadvertently in a multiuser system, viewing the contents of other users' private files without permission would be unethical, as those files are intended for only that user, even if not locked or restricted.

Multiuser operating system:

The multiuser operating system is defined as the operating system which allows multiple
users to use the same computer at the same time as well as at different times also. The
examples of the multiuser operating system are Linux, Unix and Windows 2000 etc.

Social issues in the multiuser operating system:

 In the multiuser operating system, viewing file name of other cannot be

considered the same as wondering into someone’s house without their permission
because this is bound to happen in multiple user system but viewing the content of
other’s is an offence. Commented [a1]:

 The material placed in the common lounge such as physician’s waiting room is
common for each visitors and patients so it is right of everyone to read that
content. But the content of others file is the one’s private document, although
there is no lock in the file or there is no restriction but still it is the ethical
responsibility of the user not to look into other’s file. Commented [a2]:
