InfiMONITOR
   General description
 InfiMONITOR is a Network Monitoring System that enables you to monitor
   the status and health of all the InfiNet Wireless devices in your network

InfiMONITOR
      Installation
 Note: InfiMONITOR comes in as an ISO image, so a dedicated server or a virtual machine are required for its
 installation. Any Hypervisor is supported, for example Vmware, Hyper-V, VirtualBox. The procedure below
 describes how to install InfiMONITOR using Oracle VM VirtualBox. If a dedicated server is used, a bootable USB
 or CD should be created and the installation steps should be followed from Step 17 ahead.
 Prerequisites
 1.   Download         the    latest  InfiMONITOR           ISO    image      from    the     official   website:
      http://infinetwireless.com/products/infimonitor
 2.   Download the latest Oracle VM                VirtualBox   from   http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-
      storage/virtualbox/downloads/index.html
 3.   Minimum hardware requirements: Intel Core i3 3 GHz (64 bit architecture), 4 GB RAM, 200 GB free storage
 Installation steps
 1.   Install Oracle VM VirtualBox by following the step by step wizard and keeping the default settings. If more
      details are needed, the official Oracle documentation can be consulted
 2.   Open VM VirtualBox Manager and click on the “New” button

 3.   The wizard for creating a new Virtual Machine is displayed. The first step is to specify the name of
      the virtual machine and the operating system to be used. InfiMONITOR uses CentOS , 64 bit version
      so you need to select Type àLinux and Version à Other Linux (64-bit) like below
 Note: If you do not have the option to select a 64-bit OS, please check the virtualization settings in BIOS
 and also make sure that the Hyper-V is disabled in “Windows features”.
 4.   Click “Next”

 5.   Define the RAM resources according to the hardware requirements (minimum 4GB) and click
      "Next":
 6.   Select “Create a virtual hard disk now” and click “Create”:

 7.    Select the hard disk file type as “VDI (VirtualBox Disk Image)” and click “Next”:
 8.    Select “fixed size” for the hard disk storage and click “Next”
 9.    Select the virtual hard disk size according to the hardware requirements and click “Create”. Below
       you can see a minimum requirement, but you should consider to allocate more GB for log and
       history storage!

 10. The wizard is finished and in a few minutes the InfiMONITOR virtual machine will be created. When
     finished, select it and click on “Settings” like below:
 11. Go to “System” and select the boot order as below. Before installation, when the hard disk is empty,
     it has to boot the InfiMONITOR ISO image from the “Optical” unit. However, after the installation, it
     should always boot from the hard disk and avoid entering again in the installation menu:

12. Go to “Storage” and select the Empty optical unit. Next browse for the InfiMONITOR ISO image:

13. When loaded, it will look like below:

 14. Go to “Network” and select “Attaced to:” “Bridged Adapter”. Choose the network adapter that will
     be used for connecting to the monitored devices (physical monitoring interface). The bridged adapter
     mode will create an internal link with the physical interface and will route packets between the virtual
     machine and the physical port of the Server/PC:
  Note: InfiMONITOR can only manage one network adapter, so if you want it to have access to two
  different networks (including Internet), you must use an external router
 15. Click “OK”. The InfiMONITOR virtual machine settings are finished and the installation can proceed

 16. Select the InfiMONITOR virtual machine and click on “Start”:
 17. The InfiMONITOR installer is loaded. Press “Enter” to install InfiMONITOR:

 18. The installation is initiated and a few configuration steps need to be performed as indicated below.
     Press “Enter” to continue:
 19. Select your time zone from the list:

 22. Select the network adapter to be used as physical monitoring interface:
 23. Configure the IP address that shall be used to access InfiMONITOR. Since the virtual machine
     interface is connected (bridged) with the physical network adapter, the IP address configured at this
     step should be from the same network as the one used by the physical network adapter:

 24. Configure the Netmask:
 25. Configure the Default gateway (the IP address of the physical network interface of the server on
     which InfiMONITOR is installed):

  26. Configure the Name server address (same as the default gateway):
  27. Continue with the InfiMONITOR installation:

  28. Wait for the installation to complete. In the end, the following message will be displayed. Choose to
      “Reboot” in order to boot from the hard disk and get the InfiMONITOR processes running:
  29. After the reboot, you are informed about the Web-interface access (address and credentials).
      You can also enter “Service mode” at this point:

 In “Service mode” you can either view/edit the network settings configured during installation or you can
 reboot InfiMONITOR:

    Web interface – Initial login
 InfiMONITOR can be configured and managed via the special web-interface, using the IP address
 configured during installation. Depending on your web browser, it is possible to get the following message:

                                                                To prove the certificate trust, expand the
                                                                "ADVANCED" tab and click on "Proceed

  Next, you will be prompted for the authorization data:

 1.    Go to the Users and groups page in the Settings section and roll over the administrator account
       with the mouse. The “Edit” and “Delete” buttons appear. However, you cannot delete this account
  2.    Click on the “Edit” button and add the new password
  3.    Save the account

 To add new users, Go to the Users and groups page in the Accounts section and click on the “Add
 user” button. Fill in the user credentials, set its permissions(Group and Personal) and click on “Create”:

 To manually add a device, go to the Hosts management page in the Settings section and click on the
 "Add host" button. Fill-in the fields of the "Add host" window and then click on "Create":

 Until InfiMONITOR can establish a connection with the unit, it appears in the "Pending hosts" window:
 Note: If the device is pending for a long time, this can indicate that the authentication credentials are
 incorrect and/or the SNMP server has not been started on the device. Check the settings and correct
 them, if necessary

    Web Interface – adding a network element
 In order to be able to monitor the InfiNet units using InfiMONITOR, you have to initially perform the SNMP
 configuration for each unit:

     Auto-discovery
 •   InfiMONITOR benefits of the Auto-Discovery function, which is enabled by default. This means that
     after one unit has been manually added, all the units which are in the same MINT area as that unit will
     be added automatically
 •   We can therefore see that after adding one device (BS1), all other network elements will appear
     automatically with no additional effort:
 •   During Auto-Discovery, InfiMONITOR uses all the SNMP credentials in its database (defined by the
     user) to find all the devices in the MINT network. Auto-Discovery is done using the polling mechanism
 •   If a device is unresponsive for 5 minutes (standard polling interval), its status is automatically changed
     to ‘Unknown’. If it remains unresponsive for another 5 minutes, its status will change to ‘Unreachable’

   Event rules
 In InfiMONITOR, all events can only be triggered by specific rules. The rules contain matching conditions
 and are grouped into Groups of rules

 InfiMONITOR comes with a default group of rules, named "All hosts" and a set of 10 pre-defined rules.
 You can find them in the "Settings" section

 You can group devices and rules in order to create a group of rules by going to the Event rules page
 in the Settings section and clicking on the “Create group” button like below

 The steps are the following:
 1.   Type the group name
 2.   Choose the devices that you want to be part of the group
                                                                 •   Search or select the
                                                                     devices from the Available
                                                                     devices section and click
                                                                     on Assign selected to add
                                                                     devices to the group
                                                                 •   You can also add a tag to
                                                                     the group. The rules from
                                                                     the group will apply to all
                                                                     the units that carry that tag
                                                                 •   You can exclude devices
                                                                     by clicking on Exclude
                                                                     selected button from the
                                                                     Available devices section

 3.   Select the rules that should be assigned to the group. Go to the Rules tab, choose the rules from
      the list of Available rules and click on the Assign selected button to add a new rule to the group
 •    Note: Only the Assigned rules will trigger events

 4.   Configure e-mail notifications
                                                                •   Select the users that should
                                                                    receive email notifications
                                                                    from the Available users
                                                                    section and click on the
                                                                    Assign selected button
                                                                •   The users that will receive
                                                                    email notifications for the
                                                                    group of rules are displayed
                                                                    in the Assigned users list
                                                                •   “Notifications    enabled”
                                                                    should be checked
                                                                •   Configure        the   e-mail
                                                                    notification template. In the
                                                                    “Subject” and "Body" of the
                                                                    template you can use
                                                                    variables     like   “Object”,
                                                                    “Status”, “Severity”, “Rule”
                                                                    etc.
 5.   Click on the Create button to create the group of rules

 InfiMonitor uses rules to trigger alarms. There are 10 pre-defined rules, but users can also create
 new ones
 •    In order to create a new rule for triggering events, the next steps should be followed:
 1.   Go to Event rules in the Settings page
 2.   Select the Rules tab
 3.   Click on the “Create rule” button

 4.   In the “Settings” tab of the Create new rule window fill in the details of the event that needs to be
      created. The example below shows how to create a Warning when the current level falls below 25
      dB. The event generated will be named “Low signal level”. Also, the event will be automatically
      resolved, when the condition of the rule is no longer met:

 5.   In the “Condition” tab specify the condition that will trigger the event. Then click on the “Create”
      button:
 •    The new event will be added and displayed in the main Rule list like below

 •   After creating a new rule, don't forget to add it to a group, or else it won't take effect

      Configuring email notifications
 In order to configure email notifications, you have to perform 3 steps:
 1.   Configure the email server settings by going to the System page in the Settings section

 2.   Make sure that the InfiMONITOR users that should receive email notifications have an email
      address configured

 3.    Go to an existing group of rules or create a new group of rules and check “Notifications enabled”
       as shown earlier in the Creating a group of rules section

 •    Polling is the main mechanism to retrieve data from the hosts, regardless if the SNMP traps are
      activated on the units or not
 •    The units also send SNMP traps to InfiMONITOR whenever an event occurs, related to a specific trap
 •    Monitoring can be performed by going to Network monitoring, which includes 4 sections:
 1.   Events – displays the events (alarms) configured in the system or customized
 2.   Links – displays the link operational status along with detailed parameters describing its functionality
 3.   Hosts – displays the detailed device status
 4.   Network map – graphical representation of the network topology and geographical positioning of the
      units

 •   The Events section displays the events/alarms related to the InfiNet devices and links in your network
 •   In Live mode, the events are displayed in chronological order, strictly from the most recent to the oldest

 •   In History mode, you can choose the time period for which you want to display the events
 •   Since version 2016.4.4, InfiMONITOR keeps the event history only for a period of one year maximum.
     You can adjust the Events retention period by going to System à Events retention

 Note: The event status can change automatically or it can be set manually. For example an alarm can
 be acknowledged like below by right clicking on the alarm and selecting “Set status” – “Acknowledged”:

 -   Event Time (filter for a specific period of time):
 -   Filter by any of the remaining fields by typing key words. The example below shows a filter for the
     alarms occurring at PtP Slave and containing the word “down” in the alarm rule:

 •   There are 3 sub-sections in the Events section:
 -   Event list: displays the severity, description, occurrence time and number of repetitions of each event
 -   Accumulated events: the detailed occurrence time and status change history
 -   Event details: specific details for each alarm type: interface statistics, transmission statistics, link
     statistics, host details etc. for an easier troubleshooting
 -   Affected rule: shows the rule that has triggered a specific event

•       The Links section displays the link status, signal levels, bitrates, retries, error percentages, traffic load
        and tags. For each link, the information is updated every 5 minutes (during this time, all the devices in
        the network are polled once). When you select an individual link, the information regarding it is
        updated much more often (once every few seconds). For all the other devices the polling interval
        remains the same
    •     Filters can be applied based on the following criteria:
    -     Link Type
                                                                      •   MINT – links between MINT devices in
                                                                          the Network
                                                                      •   PRF – links between PRF interfaces
                                                                      •   JOIN – internal, between different
                                                                          interfaces of the same device

 -    Filter by any of the remaining fields by typing key words. In the example below, all the links of BS
      are filtered out:

 •   The Hosts section lists all the monitored InfiNet devices in your network:
 •   Filters can be applied by typing key words. In the example below, the Mmx type units are
     filtered:

 -   List of hosts, displaying the device status and additional information, like hardware model, software
     version, last reboot reason etc.
 -   Host properties, displaying information like CPU load, board temperature, memory usage etc.
 -   Network properties, displaying information like the IP address and detailed info about each interface

 •   In the Network map section, you can view a graphical representation of all the devices and links in
     your network

 •   You can choose to filter out the MINT or PRF links

 •   If you click on a device or a link, the properties of that object will appear in the right side of the GUI:

 The objects change their colors according to the events that occur. For example:
 •   The external color of the circle depends
     on the current host status; in this case,
     the external color is orange, which
     indicates that the host status is
     “Unknown”
 •   The internal circle color depends on the
     maximum severity among the unresolved
     events of the host; in this example, the
     internal color is red, so I have at least
     one critical unresolved event related to
     this host;
 •   In the center of the circle there is a
     number that represents the total number
     of unresolved events, which in this case
     is one
 The blue external ring that surrounds the
 circle indicates that the respective host is
 selected and its properties are displayed

 •   If you want to view the devices on Google maps, hit the Map button in the top-right corner of the
     window. Obviously, each device must have the GPS coordinates already configured:

 •   You can change the Google Maps API key by going to System, in the Settings section. To get an
     API key, go to https://console.developers.google.com/ and search for “Google Maps Geolocation API”

 •   The Reports subsystem of InfiMONITOR allows you to display performance statistics for the
     monitored hosts or links
     1. Open the Graphs window from the Reports section and choose Links or Hosts

      3. Set the period of time for which the statistics should to be displayed:

 •   Once you select the objects, the graph is shown:

 •   If you want to display the data as a table, instead of a graph, select the Data table view mode (only
     available for Hosts). In this mode, you cannot choose the devices. The statistics are shown for all
     the units:

    Licensing
•    InfiMONITOR offers flexible licensing, depending on the number of units that you want to monitor
•    You can choose between 4 paid licenses, which support up to 100, 500, 1000 and the full license
     which supports an unlimited number of nodes
•    A free, standard license is available for up to 20 InfiNet devices and you can also request a free 30-day
     trial license for an unlimited number of units
•   If you add more units than your license allows you to, the additional devices will appear as
    “Deactivated” in the Hosts management list and will not be monitored. You can choose whichever
    units to be activated or deactivated by right-clicking on them and choosing “Activate”/”Deactivate”:

•   In the License section, you can see how many licenses you have left. Here, you can also find
    instructions for upgrading your license

    Firmware updates and maximum network size
•   InfiMONITOR must be permanently connected to the Internet for it to constantly check for new firmware
    versions. When there is a new version available, the update is done automatically, without the
    intervention of the user. If you use a Virtual Machine, don’t forget that InfiMONITOR can only manage
    one network adapter, so if you want it to have access to two or more different networks (including
    Internet), you must use an external router
•   InfiMONITOR has been successfully tested with a network load of 10000 units
•   SMS notifications are only possible via an external network device that can forward e-mail data through
    the SMS service
